hi guys , need some help overclocking my i7 on my asus gene 2 motherboard . i could overclock my q6600 on p45 board to 3.4ghz on stock volts .
dont have a clue with this board , the bios is crazy , and i dont like the auto overclock feature . it ramps up the speed too 3.2ghz but also ups the voltage a bit .
i thought my i7 do would go 3.2 on stock volts . is this possible ? could someone help me

ok thanks

i7 920 do cpu

Try these settings, but do understand that overclocking will void any warranty on the CPU and is done at your own risk.

CPU Ratio: 21
Base Clock: 200
DRAM Frequency: 1603
UCLK Frequency: 3208
QPI Link Rate: 7218
CPU Differential Amplitude: 800 mV
CPU Voltage: 1.23750
QPI/DRAM Voltage: 1.35
DRAM Voltage: 1.65681
Hyper-Threading: Off
Turbo-Mode: Off
Load-Line Calibration (LLC): Enabled
Disable C state
Disable CPU spread spectrum
Disable PCI-E spread spectrum
Disable CE1
Disable TM function
You may need to raise your CPU voltage a bit from what I have shown but these settings should give you a good start.

Personally I would not go straight in for a 4.2GHz overclock (which is what the settings above will set it to). Aim for something like 3.2 or 3.4 (160/170BCLK x 20 CPU Ratio) and then test for stabilty/monitor temps etc before going for something stupid like 4.2 right off the bat.

@sacha35: Have you just copied & pasted these settings from somewhere without even knowing what they are/will do? Or have you just picked some random numbers out of the air? I think the very fact that you even posted such ridiculous settings is evidence of this.

If you have got an i7 920, why would you want Hyperthreading turned off? Load-Line Calibration ENABLED, really??

@OP: I would not listen to another bit of "advice" that this guy gives you, honestly.

same here whats the point in buying a i7 to turn of hyper threading

OK Guys if you know my background you would not have made such a statement but it is obvious you don't know me at all or my background in overclocking being no1 UK overclocker and reaching 4th in the world of overclocking within the rankings, so will not help you guys any more if your posts are going to be like this.

As for you two that has made this statement, what have you ever done in regards overclocking? please let us all know as I am keen to know as you both must be so much more experienced than me in the overclocking department to make such a bold statement.

To be honest 4.2Gig is so easy to obtain so find it very funny that both of you guys that must have so much experience form the comment you have made, anyway in the next world championship overclocking event I normally go to I will have to take both of you along with me as you both must know so much more than me.

To sniper ignore what others are saying, and go by what sacha posts, firstly he knows these asus boards extremly well, and would'nt post stuff that is'nt known to work, so therefore is not just copy and pasted.

If you guys need to see what sacha can do without really trying, read the motherboard reveiws he has done and kindly posted on this very forum.

Sadly not all know what sacha is capable of, and his vast experience.

@Sacha
Ignore them, most of us here are very greatfull you take the time to post here, keep up the good work on the reviews you do, and also keep the flag flying for blighty lol.

Don't think I need to say anymore do I.

sacha35 any chance with some help on my OC. System in sig and my 920 is C0 PLEASE

Gary

Co's are a little harder and I have found need a bit more Vcore, try the settings I have stated but start off with lower multi, the main thing with any overclock depends on what cooling you have, the better cooling the better overclock.

There is no point in upping vcore to try and make stable because the chip will fall over as it draws too much current and then overheats.

Anyway start off as said with lower multi than stated and then start raising multi making a note of temps under load with each multi you raise, you want to have a fine balance between overclock and stable temps, try to aim around the 65c make when fully loaded nothing over the 80c mark will cut it. If you find your CPU is getting to hot then this is when you need to look at getting better cooling.

No. 1 overclocker in UK, joined Sep 2009. mmmK.

I don't buy it.

I am not going to get into an augment with you, but you should really stop and do a Google search on my user name sacha35, you will see I have been involved with many filming and over clocking events around the world where I have taken many world records on different platforms.

And if that is not enough here is a screen shot from the world rankings at HWbot showing that I reached 4th place in the total world ranks.

I hope this is enough proof for you but if not I guess you will just have to take my word for it, as I have not been a member on here for very long does not mean that I have not been into overclocking for the past 10 years or member of other forums.

Anyway I take it would be too much for an apology from you now, as you obviously no so much more than myself or anyone else on here.
