Hi all

Been a long time since ive been on here and need some advice, im totally out of touch with pc parts these days and i am in need of some help.

Ive got £300 to upgrade my current system but i want to try and use as much of the hardware that i have already if possible to keep the cost down.

This is what i have,

Skt 939 Amd 3500+
skt 939 mobo
74gb Raptor
250Gb western digi
1gb Ram
6800gt
19" samsung 930bf monitor
windows xp pro

think the only usable might be the harddrives i really dont know lol but what would you spend your £300 on to bring it up to date? it will be maily used for games.

Any info appreciated like i say im totally out of touch with todays components

This will bring you system up to date and worth the extra 18 pounds. The HD5750 is enough for a 19" monitor and will allow you to run any game at high settings with smooth gameplay. The Athlon II dual-core will also guarantee a smooth gameplay and will also run apps very fast. The motherboad has 2xPCI-Express slots so you'll be able to add another 5750 in xfire. Also you'll need to have a good PSU for this setup.400W without the second HD5750 and about 550W with 2xHD5750s.

Not sure if above spec will work...5800 series cards are not compatible with XP, so I'm assuming this includes the 5700 series too?

If you'd rather not upgrade to Windows 7, this is your alternate option, you just will not be able to play the latest titles in DirectX11.

A 4890 is faster than a 5700 Card anyway I believe.

Dont get that ram, get this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-042-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 or this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-041-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

@what spec is your PSU? worried that the power consumption of your 6800 may be much lower than the 4890 for example.

I would consider 2GB of ram and possibly an AM2+ DDR2 combo with a faster/more core CPU.

If you're upgrading at 4Yr gaps the AM3 will be obsolete when you come to upgrade and we'll be using DDR4 or 5.

Thats ~180 squid budget out of 300 gone! concentrate man.

Well, get the trial and rearm legally 3 times, that is 120 free days!! Then reinstall.

Put all games and files on a seperate partition and so reinstalling wont loose any important stuff! ;)

Now Mr Shinester, I hardly think that is a constructive comment that this forum appreciates. I was just making a suggestion, you being a Noob, can only contribute spam like that.
