Help plz with wireless network quality and maybe new router.

Hi all

I have a linksys wireless g adsl gateway which connects to the phone line for broadband and then to my desktop with a cable for that one, it is wireless to my laptop with windows xp and all is fine.

I have just put an old pc in one of the kids bedrooms for internet use it is running windows Me and i have installed a linksys wmp54g pci wireless card now i can get the card to connect to the hub sometimes when it does it says strength fair which i think is ok.

But the problem is i cannot get the internet to work i know there must be some setting to adjust but as xp done it for me on the laptop i just don't know what to do in ME!!

Can anyone help plz

Thanks shane

Could be Internet Explorer settings

Tools, Internet Options, Connection Tab

Lan Settings, Auto detect settings. Remove any dial ups listed there too

Ok

I went for the easy solution and put xp on the machine with M on it so now i can setup network which is working but i have a low signal and only connecting at 1mbs and signal strength poor :(

I have a linksys wag54g ver1.2 adsl gateway and a wmp54g wireless pci card and its only 10 mtrs away in the bedroom!

Does anyone think i should update my router and if so what to?, also do these high gain arials work the 9dbi ones? (does anyone know what is on the pci card as standard what dbi the arial is?) I don't think i can change the one on the router as its fixed not screwed.

Well I see that you have a linksys WAG54G v1.2 I had no end of problems with one of these, poor signal strength, random wireless drop outs, internet connection would drop out at least twice a day and the wireless would not stay connected for more than an hour. Luckily I RMA'd mine and now have v2. I have a WMP54G as well which gets 48mbps and signal strength very good about 10m from the router.

How did you do that and how long did it take?

Shane do you mean the RMA? I sent them an email saying that it did not work and that other people had no end of problems, and that they obviously know that there is a problem with it hence the release of V2 and discontinued firmware support for V1.2 and that I would like to RMA the product. It took about a week IIRC, they send you a UPS sticker thing and you send it to the netherlands.
