Please can I have some advice about a new build, ideally from an AMD 3960 owner ?
[Please note that both my current systems are Intel Core i7 4930K, 6 core, X79, 64Gb based from 2014/2015]

I am trying to ascertain the most compatible, i.e. reliable memory for a water-cooled Gigabyte TRX40 Aorus Extreme MB + AMD Threadripper 3960 build. Rumours persist that these newer AMD CPUs/MB combos are extremely fussy about their memory once you go past 16Gb or a speed of 3200. Some say it is entirely an AMD CPU issue whilst others say the MB also plays a major role?

I want to use Quad channel, either 64GB or 128GB (RGB would be nice, but not essential) rated at a fast (3200?), but not necessarily extreme speed (3600+?). I have wasted lots of money in the past on fast memory which was never properly supported by Asus MBs and was forced to use them at non XMP speeds, i.e. the Asus Rampage Extreme IV Black I am typing this message on, which is only happy at 1600 above 16GB, but supposedly rated 2400 (an expensive lesson learnt after trying 5 different memory types)! Hence, is 3600 really supported by this MB with 64/128GB or should I just stick to 3200 or slower?

I am not a serious gamer, but do like Flight/Driving simulators and would like the power to drive my 3 main desk based Dell 30" UHD monitors at decent FPs. My current main PCs (effectively workstations) are used for CAD/Graphics/Photo editing and my Home Recording Studio with Cubase, Bitwig, WaveLab Pro, Absolute, Dorico, Reason, Roland Apps, NI Komplete Ultimate 11, etc. and a lot of hardware audio equipment. When using the DAWs I extend my desktop to an additional 2 Dell 30" monitors to run more simultaneous Apps which determines my preference to go with a much larger CPU core count. Hence, will I gain much from 64GB to 128GB based on my usage type ?

I have checked the Gigabyte memory compatibility listing, but this does not appear to be up to date and seems to focus on many brands which are very hard to find in the UK and generally much older Corsair modules.

One source has recommended:
Corsair CMW128GX4M4E3200C16:
128GB (4x32GB) Corsair DDR4 Vengeance RGB PRO Black, PC4-25600 (3200), Non-ECC Unbuff, CAS 16-20-20-38
and
Corsair CMK128GX4M4A2666C16: 128GB (4x32GB) Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX Black, PC4-25600 (2666), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 16-20-20-38,

You might be better off looking on the forums of those programs, because I can only ever remember one person on this forum with a 3960X.

Tetras,
Thanks, I will join an AMD forum. I looked for a Gigabyte Forum earlier yesterday evening on the Manufacturer's website, but could not see one listed - strange...…
As far as the AutoCAD, Adobe & DAW forums go, they seem to be a strange mix of Network Users, MAC Users and those who have purchased pre-built systems rather than Modders who understand their PC's innards.
