Help! Recovering data from an erased DVD-RW?

I need to try and recover the data from an unfinalised camcorder disc. I poped it into my Win 7 machine to try and view the video but Win Media Center couldn't play the disc. I tried to eject the disc and got a windows message that it was preparing the disc to be used on other machines! A few min later the disc came out, I put it back in and Windows says its blank!

Is there any software that will work on optical discs? Most of the apps I've seen mostly talk about flash and hard drives.

Any recommendations?

We use CD/DVD Inspector at work, but it's bloomin' expensive. They may have a trial though.

Was it a quick erase or full? If it was a full erase you will never be able to recover the files. I think recova might be able to restore files if it was just a quick erase though.

I don't know whether it was full or quick erase. I didn't even know it was erasing! I just put the disc in to try and view the content and when Media Center couldnt display the video I tried to eject the disc and got the message. It was held in the drive for about a minute or so.

Almost certainly a quick erase then. I did find a program called mediarecover, they claim to be able to restore files from a dvd. They have a trial version too.
