Hi guys,

I'm trying to find out where a bike is registered to. A Family friend of ours is trying to find his daughter, who he has lost contact with, but all we have is a registration plate number for her motorbike.

Is there a tool that will at least give us the name of a town, so we can start looking?

Thanks for your help :)

DVLA don't give out details like that any more due to data protection, however there is a way round it. You have to get a V20 form from the Post Office and apply for a new logbook (V5C) which costs you £20 and you should be able to do that since you know the reg and the model. When you get the V5C in the post with you registered as the new owner it will have the old owner's name (daughter) and address displayed. It's a stupid system but it works every time.

If that works, it useful but a bit scary too.

You can send the DVLA V888 Release of Information form with £2.50. Just lie and say the bike has been abandoned on your property. They will then give you the address at which the bike is registered to.

Whilst not quite as legit, thats another fantastic idea.

Thanks very much for your input guys! :)

I don't think it works like that. If you do what Jonny says what will happen is they will send a letter to the current registered keeper asking them if they have sold it and giving them a month (I think) to reply. If they don't reply the log book will come through to you. It still might get you intouch somehow though :)
