Hi, i am currently debating whether to start and try to learn abit of DJ'ing.

Always enjoyed my DnB but recently it has just grabbed me completly, and i think i want to try and start something new in my life !

Basically i have _never_ DJ'ed before, i know what i need etc, i have done a fair bit of reading up.

Now as i am a complete begginer, i was wondering if people could spec me a setup.

So far i have specced this, and from reviews and the reading up i have done, it seems a safe option to begin on.

* 2 x Gemini TT-02 Decks
* 1 x Numark DM950 Mixer
* Slipmats, Leads
* Cartridges

235 pound ^^

From what i could tell, Direct Drive was deffo the way to go, even when learning it will help a lot, thus why i chose those decks and not the 01's or the cheaper Numark set.
The mixer was on the cheap side, and it seems to be "ok" for begginers, which is ok with me. If i can get used to everything and progress, it wouldnt bother me at all upgrading that later on for the price it is costing now.

Anyway, would that setup sound good, or could you guys spec me up a more friendlier and possibly cheaper system?

Also while on the topic, where do you guys buy your Vinyls from, and got any suggestions for tracks i may not know of?
I love anything DnB, mainly oldschool beats some Andy C classics, Roni Size's older stuff, and also liking darker DnB atm.

Thanks in advance.

P.S Not sure how many of you DJ but ye worth a shot.

P.S.S Might need to be moved to Audio Gear section, i wasn't too sure where was best :p

Ta for all the replys guys.

I understand why you all say buy once. But i cannot justify at the moment paying out 700 pounds for a set of decks when i am a complete beginner lol.

This aside is it the Numarks and Citronic which seem to be best in the lower hand bracket?

Was wondering could anyone suggest a setup 300/400 or under?

I can find a few setups from the information given, but im sure one of you lot could find something slightly better maybe.

Been looking around on the bay at some Technics.

The price isnt too bad at all in comparison with new gear, and if they are as good as you guys are selling them to me and from the reviews i have read i may go for them.

TECHNICS 1210 MK 2 - They ok?

Ill decide on a mixer soon, may try and find a package or 2 seperate decks, not sure.

Ta for the help anyway everyone ! :D

After a lot of consideration i have decided to g for the Technics route.

I read up a bit on the CDJ approach, but it really wasnt what i was kind of after. I know the concept is the same, and is the "up and coming" but i really wanted to dabble in vinyl and try it that way.

Anyway, 400ish for a set of techniqs looks pretty good to me, and fine for my budget on second hand.

Buying Vinyls really doesnt bother me, would be a new thing for me to do and i really am pretty damn excitied and wanting to get into it.

And the dead is done people !

I just got hold of a very nice setup imo.

2 x Technics SL 1210s Mk2 DJ Turntables
Custom flight cases.
1 x Gemini PS 626 Mixer
Stanton 500 carts and Technics slip mats

All for a lovely 450inc P+P :D

Btw i might give you a bell later krooton about some of those tunes.

Gonna be hardcore spending on some Vinyls tonight, lol im well buzzing cant wait >< !

Ye got the decks about 5 days ago, and i jsut cant get off them :p

Got myself a nice set of tunes aswell, atm i have .....

DnB:-
Ram Trilogy - 2 LP
Ram Trilogy - 3 LP
Pendulum - Hold Your Colour LP
Pendulum - Voyager
High Contrast - Days go By (awesome track btw)
DJ Zinc - Drop Beats Not Bombs LP
Fuguees vs DJ Zinc - Ready or Not
Sub Focus - Aeroplane/Flamengo
Andy C Feat Shimon - Body Rockin
A few other random DnB songs which were in a set, went cheap so thought why not - have some good tracks on though, just cant name them.

Ferry Corsten - Punk (Orig+Classic)
Mauro Picotto - Lizard
Mauro Picotto - Iguana

Cant think of the rest ^^

Getting used to beat matching ok, althoug finding it harder to get the same bass sound from both, one always tends to get slightly deeper even with a tweak on bass and high settings. Ive learnt how to clear most backing noise and get vocals to come out pretty clear though (handy when trying to get Ready or Not mix in with other things). Also started using the actual deck speed settings to help mixing of songs and getting funky vocal noises from.

All together im slowly getting there :D .... Just need to practice practice and practice.

Oh also, does anyone have

Bad Company - Shot Down on Safari LP ?!

I seriously cannot buy it anywhere, no where has it in stock.

Also does anyone know where this tune might be buyable, after a LOT of googling i cant seem to find where exactly it is from and it it can be bought on vinyl.

LTJ Bukem - Atlantis (I Need You)

:D:D:D

have you got really frustrated at any point when beatmatching etc has gone wrong and said to yourself "why did i spend all this money on these"? i can imagine its what im gonna be doing an awful lot :p

Na lol im not at all, every time i play them i get better and better.

I am slowly understanding and grasping new ideas, had a few mates over for an hour on New Years Eve and played them a load of stuff which was really fun, didnt mess up too badly either considering im pretty damn new :)

Also 35 quid for Atlantis :O, jebus. Although if i did find the tune on sale, the temptation would be high for me to buy it :p
