Been looking around on the bay at some Technics.
The price isnt too bad at all in comparison with new gear, and if they are as good as you guys are selling them to me and from the reviews i have read i may go for them.
TECHNICS 1210 MK 2 - They ok?
Ill decide on a mixer soon, may try and find a package or 2 seperate decks, not sure.
Ta for the help anyway everyone !
1210 mk2's are have pretty much been the industry standard for the last 15-20 years and they are excellent decks, and well built, strong - they last forever if treated properly.
I recently sold a pair on ebay and got £450 for them, they were well used but as shiny as new - i've always respected my audio equipment and it doesn't leave the house (btw they were 8 years old)
Try to get a pair for around £400 - don't get refurbs (shows they've been around a bit, and probably won't work as well) but make sure they haven't been abused - if the paint is chipped or worn they're probably really old. Also the platter MUST get up to full speed in a quarter of a turn, and stop the same to a COMPLETE stop. If not, the quartz mechanism may be buggered and it will hinder your mixing as it might not stay on point.
Also, have a look at the Vestax PCV 275 on the bay - they were £400 new but sell for around £150 s/hand. Excellent mixer especially for d'n'b - 3 channels - 2 mic inputs - send/return for external effects unit - 3 band kill switches (so you can completely kill the bass from one tune, or all the treble or mid - makes for good mixes without sound clashes on 'dodgy' tunes) - may be a bit too good for a beginner but they're cheapish and the crossfaders last forever (I scratch every time I mix and never had a problem with that mixer, others start to bleed the sound in from the other side).
Tunes:
where do I start? get some Ram Records albums usually 3-5 vinyls each - good stuff similar to Andy C's style, and not many fillers
Anything on Hospital Records is good rolling d'n'b - "high contrast" especially good - did a gold digger remix in the summer that was awesome
your best bet is online shops - juno records, blackmarket (now bmsoho) have a good online store too. hardtofind are rubbish
scratch records (if you fancy a go) - dj rectangle
anyways good luck with sourcing all the stuff, and happy mixing!
