Hi all, a bit of help please. I purchased a GA-K8NE skt 754 mobo from OCUK to take advantage of the ati bonanza this week. I went for the Gigabyte board on recommendation from others and the price was really good. Lots cheaper than Abit or Asus.

I have 2 problems..

1. I cant get it to boot from CD. The keyboard works in the BIOS and indeed getting in to the BIOS. Once I change the boot sequence put in my XP disk and restarted. It cycled through the various screens untill "press any key to boot from CD" appeared. The only trouble is that none of the keys work at this point!!?? I have tried different keyboards PS2 and USB both the same. If I let windows run its course, I get the Start Windows in Safe mode screen, but again the keyboard doesn't work. arrows keys nothing. Really got me stumped.

2. It appears that this particular mobo doesn't like 1gb DDR 400 if it is double sided and you have 2 of them. FFS I mean how rubbish is that. The MSI KT800 Neo I took out didn't have a problem with it and thats over 2years old. So it appears the extra performance that would be gained by a faster graphics is now compromised by slower system memory. Not a happy bunny as I need 2gb for BF2. I might be able to clock the HTT up to get some of it back, but I don't know coz I cant reinstall windows! Starting to wish I'd payed the extra for an Abit board.

some help please people

The thing with these mobos is that the "raid" option in the bios has to "disabled". Go into the bios and disable the lower ones (the upper ones in there will probably already be disabled). I don't know if this will cure your prob, but if you don't do this, the mobo won't recognise your hard drive. Try clearing the Cmos and start again.

Well it turned out to be the usb legacy support. doh!! no wonder the keyboard didn't work. Strange because I did try a ps/2 keyboard but that didn't work atall.

Windows is installing as we speak, but I'm really miffed about the memory speed  . A 20% reduction in cpu/mem bandwidth doesn't really count as an upgrade in my book.

could use some advice on possible overclocks on the htt using geil value ram, as i really don't want to have to buy anything else.

thanks for the reply pieman :)
