A good morning/evening/afternoon to you all

I have this headset guys...

I just bought this sound card...

Now I use my headset mainly for gaming/music/movies. Hence why I bought that sound card, since at the moment I cant hear much with that horrid headset :)

I was told that since I have bought this sound card, I should invest in a proper headset? Made for gaming and music/movies. Now do I really need to do this? Since I would have thought, if I buy a new sound card, it makes my headset good? I might be wrong. If so, please advice which headset I should buy.

Remember I use my headset for both gaming (High end gaming, tournaments, lans etc.) and other luxuries, I guess money is no budget, but I dont want to spend a ridicolous ammount.

I can be given this by my sponsors, but I was told they are not very good...

Any advice is appreciate and given good thought, thank you lads.

The idea that the sound card you bought would suddenly make your headset good is incorrect. That's like saying a great stereo will make some cheap crap speakers sound good.
Granted, the headset will better, but you are not taking advantage of the sound cards potential.

I am guessing, being someone who competes seriously, you want a headset and not a pair of headphones and a separate microphone?

I would say the Razer Carcharias is the best bet, it's the best combination of headset and headphones that can do more than just be used for gaming.

you absolutely need headset? Or are you open to headphones and a clip on mic?

If so, look at Audio Technica AD700 or AD900 for great gaming, Senn 555/595 for a more overall use (good in everything).

Also a high end one would be the sennheiser HD 650 but it is expensive

Need a headset mate, in tournament lans you need one that only picks up your voice really. Since there is loads of people behind you.

I agree with Masoody here. If it was me for example, I would go for some headphones and either a desk mic or a clip on one, as being at home there is very little background noise. For someone like me a desk one or clip on would suffice. The mic on a headset like the Carcharias is designed to be used in a crowded environment, and would be better for cancelling out unwanted noise better than a clip on or a desk one. I think there are desk mics that can cancel out unwanted noise to extent, but I do think it would not be able to compete with the mic in the Carcharias.

Tbh, I think the Carcharias is the best there is. Not only does it do it's job well as a gaming headset, some people have said it's as good as Sennheiser's HD555 phones for music. No other headset will come close to being as good as the Sennheiser HD555, at least to my knowledge anyway, except maybe the Sennheiser PC350, but that's an obsurd £110. To get a headset that comes close to sounding as good as the HD555 and come with a very good boom mic for a few £ more than the HD555 sells for on average, is a pretty damn good buy imo. OCUK have it for £62, which is such a bargain compared to anywhere else, it's sold out. :(

People who want quality sound usually run a mile from headsets, and rightly so most of the time, but in this case, the Carcharias really is worth looking at. The only issue of concern is the build quality. Someone did say it should be fine if it isn't mistreated, maybe that is unavoidable at LAN parties though.

Sennheiser PC350 would likey have better build quality, but at £40 more. If you are not bothered about having a headset that can double as decent phones, there are probably others worth looking at that do well in the gaming dept.
