Looking for a bit of help. I'm going to be getting some decorating done in my Living room in a couple of months time and I'm going to take the opportunity to upgrade my AV Setup.

Current Setup
Panasonic TX-P50V20E
Q Acoustics Q-AV 5.1 Speakers
Onkyo 607 AVR

Sources
Freeview
Apple TV 4K (1st Gen)
Panasonic DMPP-BD77EB-K Bluray Player

Requirements
  • I'm looking to go 4K OLED with a screen size of 55".
  • I'd also like to remove my Onkyo AVR and Q-AV 5.1 system and look at a soundbar with Dolby Atmos.
  • I'd like to replace my existing bluray player with a 4K model as well.

If anyone could give me some recommendations I'd really appreciate it.

Hi there,

I have just recently gone for an LG OLED 55 CX and an LG SN11 sound bar. Absolutely stunning bits of kit. I cant help you with a blueray suggestion as such, but my Xbox series X has a 4k Bluray built in so I just use that if not streaming a movie. Should be able to get good deals on the LG CX55 at present as its last years model but you may need to be quick.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll look in them both :)

Panasonic or LG
Don't do it
Panasonic 820

Thanks for the recommendations of a 4K bluray player.

I'd be wary about going from 5.1 to a soundbar there's no way it can reigate sound coming from behind you unless there are speakers behind you imo.

I'm going to look into the sounder option. I know what you mean but I've had my existing setup for 10yrs or so now, I'm interested to see what the sound quality is like from a soundbar setup compared to what I'm using now.

Your audio system is better than a soundbar

STOP! Do NOT change down to a sound bar - you will regret it!!! They've come on loads, but there's still no substitute for separate channels. Depends how much attention you pay, I guess. If you just want something better than the tinny telly, then sure. but it's a big step down from your QAs. Try to get a demo and see?
FWIW, LG makes a lot of the panels used by other makes, but the special sauce comes in the video processing. I got a 4k Pana last year and can't fault it.

I know I'm adding my voice to a choir here but here goes.

There is only a couple of reason's I can think of to downgrade to a soundbar.
1. You are moving and have no space in new location to set it up properly / significant other is throwing a hissy fit and wants it gone
2. It's broken and you don't have the funds to replace it.

For my money I would keep the Onkyo receiver (which model is it btw?) and upgrade the speakers first. You could pick up a set of B&W M-1's for a few hundred quid off ebay and then replace the Q-Acoustics sub with a B&W 608 if you want to keep it relatively subtle or go for an SVS SB-2000 Pro if you want it a bit more bombastic. Once thats out of the way save up a few quid, move to a new receiver and add in some more M-1's to use as atmos channels, there's loads of them on ebay all the time and they are great for wall mounting.
