Help With new Graphics card

Hi all,

Pretty much im having a hard time sorting out my new graphics card for gaming. I've recently built a new computer but im only getting Max 60 fps on games if that (battleborn 15 ??) not sure if its the certain games but i would have thought i would get 100+ on ultra graphics on any game at the moment.

This is my build :
GPU : Asus GeForce GTX 1080 Strix OC Gaming Aura RGB 8192MB
Cpu : Skylake Core i7 6700K
Motherboard : Asus Z170 Maximus VIII Hero
RAM : Corsair Vengeance 2 x 8GB 3200mhz

Any help would be amazing quite stuck at the moment to get it sorted.
ive tried Benchmarking it while overclocking while it works well still only hits 60fps ?
i have a old screen im not sure if that is the problem (HD asus 1080p)

If your monitor is 60 Hz and you are using Vsync then you will be capped at 60 fps.

If you're not using Vsync then you should get a higher reported fps, although your actual effective fps will still be capped at 60 because that's the maximum at 60 Hz refresh.

Oh Right ok, but then i should be getting 60fps constant if its capped at that ? a lot of the times in games i'm getting between 30fps - 50fps is because of the monitor too ?

I just looked abit into my monitor with CPU-z and it says its a 1920 x 1080 pixels @ 50-76 Hz, and on benchmark im getting fluid 70fps easily when my graphics is working, just seems whenever i play any game the graphics card doesnt even try. it just sits on min core Mhz.

Did benchtest and got this score, why cant i get this in games though ?

4285 points is still on the low side for GTX 1080 results on Valley.

Are temps alright?

Have you tried reinstalling drivers?

I think so i looked earlier when doing the benchmark GPU sat at 54c and CPU never went above 52c.

Ye ill have ago reinstalling the drivers

If when I think video driver has issue, I will uninstall it via normal control panel uninstall and then run DDU, then finally install video driver, perhaps try this.

The GPU temps are super low. To the point where it looks like the GPU isn't running full pelt during the test.

I will do a valley test on my 1080 to compare.

Are the games online games? Something i had a while ago was stuttering on Heroes of the Storm, turned out to be a network issue with my homeline plugs causing ping spikes which seemed very similar onscreen to FPS spikes.

Alternatively it could be a HDD issue, are you using a SSD? I had an issue with a hard drive constantly seeking/loading information giving me FPS fluctuations.

Turns out your valley score is normal. People in the bench thread are probably doing to voodoo magic stuff that increases bench scores.

You have missed the most important piece of information here, and it's impossible to diagnose the problem without it:

What is the GPU usage when performance is seemingly poor?

of course they do, the craziest overclocking options will be used to get that amazing one time, high score, after which is probably back to normal settings for actual use

Yes! I reinstalled my windows starting from new with drivers and it seems the newest version of my GPU Graphics card was causing instability, playing games at the moment at 1900 core Mhz and getting 220FPS without Vsync. so hopefully it stays like that. thanks for the help all
