Can someone help me with a basic set up that will run photoshop and lightroom comfortably. If I can work out what I need for minimum and its cost then I can then work out what I'd like extra and can afford... if that makes sense. thank you (((hugs)))

hi and welcome.

much much easier for you to give an idea of what kind of budget you have to work with.

edit : does it need to include monitor, kyb, mouse, speakers , OS ?

£450 - 500 would be a nice spec ..

total budget without screen is £1200 I have eye on the 2407 ultrasharp dell however I don't want or need a spec for gaming because beyond solitaire I get lost. I would eventually like to run 2 x 30" Dell ultrasharps but that won't be for a good while yet.

I kinda wanna know what I need versus what would be nice really.

for that kind of budget you will get something very very nice.

the 24" dell it amazing... without doubt the best thing i have ever bought for my pc.

if your talking about saving money and getting something as a minimum i wouldn't say you need to spend anywhere near that amount.

i reckon for 600-800 for the box would be plenty

You didn't really need to put "helpless" in the title.

But it keeps the number of posts up eh? ;)

How about this, including the screen (you might be able to get two earlier than you think).

Two HDs (one for scratch, other for system, both for storage) and a decent lump of RAM for PS/Lightroom; that particular graphics card as it'll be quiet and still power two monitors nicely. The motherboard is OTT but should do you for a while if you want to swap things in and out later - I'm sure someone can suggest a cheaper alternative with decent onboard graphics.

One suggestion: try any wireless mice (at a friend's/PC shop) before you buy if you can. Some people swear by them but I've not been too impressed by some, especially if you're touching up photos rather than just filtering.

To have Lightroom and Photoshop ( especially if its CS3 ) you need at least 3GB of memory for it to work 'comfortably'. Also for rendering images, the new ATI 2600 Series is a good 'bang for buck' card that will make life far easier and quicker. :)

Gave a spec with silver case just in case you do not want black.

Graphics Tablet would be a better solution.

Well I've taken a slightly different approach. You said you want 2 3007wfp-hc's eventually, so I say buy one now and get the following:

Case & Power Supply - Antec Sonata III (pre-installed 500w Earthwatts)
Motherboard - Abit IP35-E
Processor - Intel Q6600
RAM - 2gb Crucial pc2-5300c5 X 2
Hard-drive - WD Caviar SE16 500gb
Operating System - Vista Home Premium 64-bit
Graphics Card - Sapphire Radeon HD 2600pro
Optical Drive - Samsung 20x dvd burner
Keyboard - Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000
Mouse - Razer Pro-click v1.6

That system comes to £717.74 so you can easily get the 3007wfp-hc for the same price as you would have been paying for a £1200 system and a 2407wfp.

EDIT - I changed the 2400pro to a 2600pro as the 2400pro doesn't have two dvi outputs.
