Here we go - MORE Half Life 3 and L4D3 stuff

Can't imagine much slipping through the cracks with Valve so this was deliberate, just a question of whether something is coming or we are being trolled to the highest level. To be fair being a multiplayer game I can imagine L4D3 being far more likely to get released than another HL.

I want Half-Life 3!
GimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimmeGimme

That said, i'm starting to turn away from Steam in general as they are making way too many mistakes with their infrastructure. Coupled with their shocking customer service record and i've not purchased a game on Steam in probably 3 months now.

I don't think we will ever see a HL3 tbh. They could not live up to the hype and most people will just moan.

Pretty much this.

Impossible to now live up to the hype now. If it was announced (officially)we would almost see it as the second (or third) coming.

To be honest I would prefer another L4D over a Half life. Evolve didn't really do anything for me (I certainly wasn't alone with this).

I do believe that Valve will be working on their source engine, but for their own purpose, or to sell if off the licence to third party developers? Who knows....

I don't think it'll ever be too late for HL3. It's Valve we are talking about, this wont be some shoddy money grab like DNF, i think it'll easily live up to the hype. It'll be a great game and it'll hopefully finish the story and give it the closure it deserves.

I don't think HL2 stands up at all well. HL1 was great because it was the first good story driven FPS, with great dialogue, great levels, and an interesting world.

HL2 was great at the time because....erm....physics and a pretty engine. The 'yet another distopian future' setting is very stale looking back at it.

Meh to HL3. Yes to new IP.

Valve are lazy money grabbing (insert expletive).
I'm sure that's how it looks from a gamer's perspective as they have no need to pay attention to any thing other than what comes from Steam.
But the work they do (for free) with developers, Intel, Linux and the Khronos group suggests otherwise.

Since steam they just rake it in and don't give a flying **** about gamers.
:(

I have to disagree with this statement, they give away so much tech to developers to help make our games better, also they have done the green light section on steam which helps us find these indie content Black Mesa for example. they don't even even sue for black Mesa like every publisher out there does instead they let them sale their mod.

Steam doesn't suck compare to orgin and uplay they seem to value feedback and lastly it takes them years to bring games to the market. (which means they want/try to make the best game possible maybe they dont succeed but at least the franchise isnt like cod/ac/fc.)

I think we need a HL3 rumor specific rule on OcUk, something along the lines of..

"Any member who posts or links to a rumor pertaining to the possible release of HL3 will be banned until such a time as HL3 is actually released, at which time their ban will be lifted, and back dated to the time of the original offence."

Of course the the back dating bit would only really benefit people who also work for Black Mesa. ;)

Look how long it has been since the release of Doom 3, when you look at it that way HL3 is a few months away. But like has been noted by others I am not that fussed if or when HL3 appears things move on.

I think you are confusing HL3 with (the now dropped) HL2:EP3.

At this point I think if they were to release anything it would never live up to the hype. Unless they do something ground breaking with some VR tech.

A victim of their own success? Tbh it's Valve so I'm sure whatever is eventually released will be good. You will get people that don't like it. For instance above someone slates HL2. That's just the way it is. Also thinking it might be a cool thing to hate on it no matter what is released...

You're entitled to your opinion good sir, just like me. So am I allowed to nonsense your nonsense strike? - I jest.

HL1 was emotional and memorable, with some predictable parts and wonky jumping sections.

HL2 was stale ...

Aaaand, that's what the Ignore List is for. Goodbye Flat Earth Man!

At this point I'm personally more excited for Left 4 Dead 3... :o

I just feel like they could do a lot more impressive things with it tech-wise (I remember back to the original L4D pitch, it had some great ideas that unfortunately came to fruition due to limitations and restrains...) Even this video gets me excited - day-night cycle? I can't really imagine thus in the content of the pre-existing campaign missions, so it sounds like they had some interesting ideas (maybe missions start in day, fade into night, or vice-versa?)

Don't get me wrong I'd kill for another Half Life, but I just can't imagine how they'd push the FPS genre forward again in a ground breaking new way. Or maybe that's why we should all be so excited, maybe they do have something spectacular planned :D

Then there's the mysterious portal-esque sequel mechanic that was supposedly super exciting, but got dropped 'cause play testers kept going on about "where are the portals?" If you wanna look into it more, it was called "F-Stop" (again, similar to aperture...), but they've been very tight lipped about it and have only talked about it for like 5 mins total I think in public, I think they still have it on the back burner (well, hopefully...)

I can't see Valve getting anything at all out of a third major installment of HL. It could be the best damn narrative the industries ever seen and it still wouldn't be enough to live up to the hype.

HL 1 and 2 where benchmarks in terms of innovation. People saying that it was just valve showing off what they could do with there engine are, to be quite honest, talking out of there damn colon. There's so many aspects of both those games that fundamentally changed how designers and audiences make and play video games.

But that's done now. The industries come a seriously long way since HL2 released. We see new and interesting mechanics in games all the time now.

LFD3 however... I'd be up for that :)
