easy to get into (she's getting on a bit now :D )
power steering
working radio!

as you can see from her list she doesn't want much :p

cars i've thought of :
new corsa
vw golf plus
vw polo plus (is there one?)
suzuki swift
suzuki sx4
maybe vauxhall mariva
ford c-max / although possibly too big / certainly max size.
ford fiesta / think the fusion is too damn ugg / sorry if you own one!!

i think you can get an idea of whats on the shopping list
not tiny, but not too big(she's a nightmare driver!), new or poss upto 1 / max2 years old, i think higher roofed versions would be looked upon favourably

what else needs to be on the shopping list.

********** added from here: **********
honda jazz
mini
toyota yaris
seat ibiza
fiat panda !
citreon C2/3
renault clio
nissan micra
fiat sedici

Fiat Nuova Panda? Definitely easy to get into, the radios are half decent and it isn't too huge. Plus, it's reasonably uncomplicated so it's actually rather reliable.

Honda Jazz? Only heard good things about them.

Also my friend's Mum (Saitrix) has a Suzuki Swift and they seem really happy with it.

If you are suggesting a C-Max and Fiesta, why not a Focus?

Why a Golf Plus over a normal Golf?

Honda Jazz certainly seems to be the "in" car with older people.. particularly in pale blue in this area.. I swear they're everywhere.

Fox will come here soon, so as always I put forward the Mini ONE.

The new 2007 R56 ONE comes with a 1.4 Petrol Engine, lots of goodies if wanted.

Or an R50 (2003-2006) ONE comes with a 1.6 Engine, can be specced with many different packs..

arr yes the Jazz thats another i was thinking of.

not sure about fiats, we have them at work they're not ermm brill, plus depreciate like an alfa ;)

i don't know if small people find the same but the mini is the worst normal car i have had to get in and out of. Very comfotable once in, especially as the drivers seat goes soo low.

I found MINIs an utter nightmare to get in and out of when my knee was bad. That said, I'm fairly long legged and that means dropping quite a way down to get into most cars.

Buy one that's a year old and you've taken care of thr worst of the depreciation. And what 'isn't brill' about the Panda? I've not come across any major reliability worries, and Dad's diesel one potters around very happily taking all manner of abuse.

Toyota Yaris.

Really easy power steering, nice and tall, and raised seating position makes it a doddle to get in and out. Even getting my paralysed grandad in and out of it was easy as anything. Most likely won't skip a beat either.

If you a looking at the Yaris, have you looked at the Aygo?

My wife, in her infinite wisdom picks one up tomorrow morning. Going from a PT cruiser to an Aygo.
TBH, its not a bad car, for what she will use it for. shopping and a town runabout. Cheaper than a Yaris too

What about the Auris as well? they look like nice cars, dont know a lot about them but from what i've seen they look really nice.. poss the new Civic its a bit marmitey tho, either love or you hate it..

Toyota were faced with a problem. The Corolla, their biggest seller, was just utterly boring and devoid of many reasons to chose one over a Focus, Golf or Astra. People associated the name Corolla with dullness.

Something needed to be done. An all new car. To rid the image of before. So along came a new name, the Auris. Only they forgot to make it not boring.

Doh.

Ford Mondeo, BMW 530i sport (manual obviously), Ford Focus, Any white Type-R or a nice reliable German Golf.

would you like a pinch of salt with that advice? :p
