Hi, need some advice..

I have used the s9600 and found it a decent camera - fits well into the hands and nice thick barrel with manual zoom. feels like a dslr and lens combo.

The canon looks on the smaller side and looks like it utilises a motorised zoom but it is Image stabalised - the zoom doesnt seem as good as the fuji

I know the fuji optics are good and the other being a canon - i cant see it being too bad either.

Do you know what kind if pictures you want to take?

first main use will be going to the isle of man for the tt racing, so motorbike shots, the zoom will be needed and what i like about the canon is the image stabalising.

But im also wanting a bridge camera as i want something that feels like an slr, to possibly move in that direction in the future.

Which would take the best shots using zoom?
Fuji: 28-300mm equiv. (10.7x) manual zoom f/2.8 – f/4.9 lens
Canon f/2.7-3.5 36-432mm equivalent 12x zoom lens

Other use will be general holiday shots, festivals, etc

I am leaning towards the canon with the USM for fast focus and IS which comes in handy at long focal distances. I didnt notice the zoom on the canon before so another plus.
The only down side i think is the motorised zoom (i am still making an assumption that this is what it has). If you are doing motorsport and want to quicky adjust zoom with a switch rather than twisting the barrel of the lens, its going to be difficult.

I would disagree with this. Pressing and holding a button wont be as quick as a manual zoom (or as accurate).

i think i sould get to a camera shop and have a play about, see what suits me best. Want to compare the manual/motorised zoom. hopefully some speeding vechiles will drive by..

unless i pay nearly twice as much and get a fuji S100FS.. any thoughts about this camera, as it looks like it has the best of both worlds with the s5 and 9600?

If your spending this much not fancy pushing it a little to DSLR?

Last week 400D body was £256 + a kit lens/ cheap zoom from ebay @ £30 ish

This leaves the option to upgrade easily later without spending a chunk again.

i knew this thread would go this way..i did start looking into dslr's and me being me kept looking more and more and the price kept on spiralling out of control..

could you pm me (hotmail address) where the 400d body at that price is?
any recommendations on lense kits for motorsport and general use?

still want to play with a 9600.. being a complete novice i think it would be best as it would give me an overall view of what dslr's can do with all the lense's essentially in one package. Then if i get into it i can justify spending more as i will have learnt the basics. My heart says spend lots but my head says 9600..

The offer is over im afraid, but check out used bodies too,

Ive just found a Used 20D for £179 - thats an absolute steal if you ask me.

If on a budget:

Canon 18-55 - £30ish
Sigma 70-300 - £50 - £90 (non APO and APO)
Canon 50mm - £58 deliverd
