High line noise

Okay so I've had this problem for a while, I'm certain it's an issue between my master socket and the exchange but I've never felt the necessity to get it fixed as problems only rarely occur, but when they do, it can mean whole days of downtime.

Here is a screenshot of my router stats with the router connected to a secondary socket downstairs.

Here are the stats with the router on the master socket

And now with the router on the test port of the secondary master socket

(The test socket of the master socket isn't working for some reason)

As you can see, the noise is very high, and I'm just looking for confirmation that it is a BT issue? Or if you think it might be something else. I'm pretty sure I've rules out internal wiring by using the master socket but I'm still unsure.

Much appreciated folks! :)

They are virtually identical, that's why I'm posting, to get confirmation that the problem exists outside of the internal wiring. Do the figures not look bad to you? (Line attenuation in particular). My neighbours have roughly half that despite being (obviously) almost the exact same distance as me to the exchange.

Sorry, didin't mean to make the topic name High Line Noise.

Unfortunately going by neighbours readings may not always be accurate. You could even be off the same distribution point but have completely different stats.

If you think you should be getting more speed, ring your ISP and get them to investigate

I did, they told me to ring BT, who asked me to phone 02, who asked me to phone BT.

Problem is I'm not technically having a problem right now, an whenever a problem comes, it would be gone by the time the engineer comes out

Yeah, not much but there is slightly on most occasions, again, nothing I couldn't live with and don't notice unless I listen for it, but it's there.

When you say "whenever a problem comes, it would be gone by the time the engineer comes out" have you had problems in the past then?

Just for arguments sake, you have a noisy line which isn't noisy when the engineer turns up, doesn't make it a chargeable call out. You could tell the engineer that your neighbours, off the same distribution point have twice as fast speeds and ask him to check they you are on the same cable run as them.

There shouldn't be any noise on the line at all really

Edit: Ask 02 for a SFI (Special Faults Investigation) to be done on the line, This will sned a job to openreach for a broadband engineer to come out to have a more in depth look at your line

It's very unlikely that anyone sent out to investigate a voice fault would be interested in queries related to data speeds. You don't have a fault, end of story.

It's possible that mentioning "high noise" is confusing O2. They shouldn't be telling you to phone BT about anything to do with your ADSL service, but as said there's nothing wrong with those screenshots.

I'm curious what you mean the master socket test port isn't working, if it wasn't nothing should be working. Wired correctly everything goes through the test socket behind the faceplate...
