I am currently trying to get quotes for a car I may buy if I can insure it for a reasonable price.

The car in question is a 4*4 saff cossie, the problem part is that it is producing 430 bhp. Other usual mods - alloys, suspension, gauges, aftermarket stereo.

I can insure a cossie up to 400 bhp with no real drama (had several quotes for different cars) but the extra 30 on this one is causing a real headache!

It will be a garaged second car, 3k mile limit, RS owner's member, cat 1 security, with NCB to use (I hold 2 policies.) Car is over 15 years old, so can go on classic policy.

I have tried:

HIC (who insure the escort) and it will more than double my premium
Boncaster - Refused to Quote
Awaiting an email from green light
Awaiting email from Micheal Ward
Waited on hold for 10 mins to A plan and gave up.

There is no point with confused etc, as they just don't cater for this kind of thing.

Anyone suggest anyone else please?

I'm obviously not expecting to insure it for the same as a 1.2 corsa or the like, but as a guide, it has come out at £450 more expensive for this 4*4 saff (less likely to go backwards thru a hedge with 4*4) than a 400 bhp rwd 3 door, with £3k more agreed value!!!:confused:

Performance direct gave me a pretty good quote on an RX7, much cheaper than anyone else.

Adrian Flux seem to be pretty good with mods and the likes.

Greenlight insurance did me a good deal with my modified hair dryer I pay about 450 FC. Includes, full turbo conversion, intercooler, "air filter" (part of the turbo system really), full exhaust system, remap, 35+% increase in power. Everything declared.

That's what I was thinking, if you crash then I doubt the engine will be making 430 bhp after the crash still, so how would they know.

I don't want to take any chances. Who knows if insurers check piston heads etc? Not worth the risk, I'd rather have it fully covered, that way if the worst did happen I know me, any potential third party and my car is covered. (The ecu also does data logging, and who knows what might be stored in there? ;) )

I've tried adrian flux in the past for prev quotes, and they weren't too competetive, but def worth another go anyway. A Plan need to learn to answer the phone as well!

Cheers for the other suggestions, another lunch on the phone beckons I think.

Another vote for Sky here - I was running a modified GTO Twin Turbo import and insurance was around £800fc, parked on my drive in an area not unlike downtown Basra.
