I ordered a new PC 6 months ago Cutting a long story short I have had 4 new HDDs and a new motherboard. I have just recieved the PC back from them after being fixed again. Past couple of days my ping on-line has been good between 10-20. But today it has shot up to 200+. I am not downloading and don`t have any programs running in the background. Has anyone any reasons to why this could happen? I did think it could be my ISP playing up, whos knows tomorrows a new day.

First of all, I think you've mentioned a competitor.. you might want to edit that out.

Anyway, we need a bit more detail...

What ISP are you using?
How are you connecting - USB or Ethernet?
Can you do a traceroute to somewhere like bbc.net.uk for us?

Oh right, so this is actually over NTL?

What NTL area are you in?

EDIT: Might be worth trying a new network card or a different PC, if you can, to eliminate your PC as faulty.
 
Yes over NTL

It has just come back from being fixed. It was fine thursday and friday an average ping of 10. Today its gone nutts 260+.

I`m hoping its the ISP i`ll see tomorrow if not it`ll be going back for the 5th time

Do you have AOL Dialup or NTL cable?


In the first test you are using AOL Dialup.
