Ok guys, I need to find out what the highest grossing downloadable internet game is.

By that I mean there's a free demo that you can download from a website, and you can pay a small fee to download the full version. It's probably a small fairly simple game like a puzzle game or something made by independant developers. I've looked all over and can't find any information. Does anyone know what it is?

Wouldn't surprise me if it's halflife 2 simply because it was available via download for a long time and is extremely popular / well known.

If you mean specifically shareware titles then Doom is pretty huge but because of the era, the full version was shipped on floppies as opposed to downloaded

I would take a guess at tetris or quake or duke nukem. The fps games i mentioned are very popular with collages and uni for lan games while lecturers aint looking.

Yeah it's something like that, all I know is it's just a small game nothing like Half Life 2 or anything, probably hasn't been released in shops...etc. Was also probably developed by a small team or perhaps even one person.

i think half life 2 will have made far more than any downloadable shareware game.

quake will have been popular but i dont remember downloading that but getting it on 31536000 demo discs

Dopewars? n? Nethack? They could all be contenders as all are/have been pretty popular but I don't have the slightest clue what the sales figures are like.

I doubt the exact figures for something like this are easy to find, if at all. I'm 90% sure it would be a popcap game in terms of 'buying' a download. However, do online subs count? If so then world of warcraft must be a big contender.

I would say something on Valves steam, but not anymore.

Valve: "Half life modifications for free!? and they are popular because they are free!? we cant be having that now.... charge them $10!"

I'd say Duke Nukem.
