Hillary Clinton Admits the U.S. Government Created al-Qaeda

Everyone knew this..however I will believe that Clinton only became aware of this a few weeks ago and thinks its revalation. I still remeber the absolute lies she was caught during her campaign.

Yes, but they had no idea that they were going to turn into religious extremists!

They did, and didn't, they knew what would happen, and they didn't turn into religious extremists.

What they did was give a group of people in Afghanistan a huge amount of power, they went from nothing to incredibly important people in their own country, they won against Russia ffs.

The one thing that has been true throughout history and you KNOW will happen, elevate someone, make them powerful and then cut them off........ bad bad bad idea.

People who get in power want to keep power, religion was their tool for recruitment and a reason to fight, the goal and the only thing the leaders care about is power and money like anyone else in the world.

Quite a few people knew what would happen if they cut off all contact/help with Afghanistan and the rest of the government was short sighted, blind, morons who screwed everyone over by leaving a group of militant, well trained, organised people in Afghanistan to find other sources of income, arms and power.

OP has one major flaw: al quaeda != taliban

CIA funding was via the ISI to the afghan mujahedin

so yes the US certainly helped to fund, train and equip what would later become the Taliban... and other groups - in particular this guy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahmed_Shah_Massoud

who's forces were pretty essential to the US invasion.

But if you want someone to blame for Al Quaeda then blame the Saudis

I'd vote Ron Paul because he's the most liberal out of all the Republican candidates and Obama... but there's some right stupid people following him.

He is a fundamentalist Christian who likes states rights to the point where he would have no problem with a restaurant saying "no blacks" or a state outlawing interracial marriage because according to him, the magic hand of the free market will sort it out. Also good luck with abortion etc.

And he's the most liberal of the lot of them. I don't support him, there's just rockall choice.

How is that more liberal than Obama?

Peace, retrenchment, reform are the liberal ideals. Ron Paul suits them best.

As for his christian views I'm sure he's said they're irrelevant because as President he wouldn't force them on the states.

I am aware he's a libertarian, and they are often conservatives in disguise... and often they're liberal when it's what they want and reactionary when it's not...

But there's no real liberal candidate in the US (or the UK).

Foreign intervention in Afghanistan was a lot more complicated than 'Dollars for Osama'. The ISI backed the hardline warlords using US funds (over their objections in some instances), while the US and some European countries were directly involved with the 'moderate' elements.

What would become Al Qaeda was sponsored by wealthy Arabs, primarily Saudis who knew Bin Laden's family. Osama neither came into contact with the CIA nor received any of their support because he didn't need it.

* The US backing Iraq and Saddam Hussein during the Iraq-Iran war (Iran was viewed as the biggest threat due to their Islamic revolution)
/QUOTE]
In the case of iraq, it was quite a few western nations that helped build their arsenal of chemical and biological weapons, (even the french were involved in their nuclear plant at osirak). The stockpiles and infrastructure to rebuild theese weapon supplies were destroyed by the very same western governments in the 1991 gulf war, only for them to go back in search of them in 2003.

The CIA funding and arming the Mujahideen is perhaps one of the worst kept secrets of the 80s. It was well known that it was just another proxy war at the time.

breaking news!

iran and iraq both got sold arms to fight each other! and everyone turned a blind eye when iraq was using gas until the press started reporting about it and only then was he the bad guy..

some of you guys must be so gullible if you dont realise the types of stuff goverments encourage and ignore behind closed doors.

its only a problem when people find out
