Hi,

I'd like to treat myself to a hip flask. Can anybody recommended any particular brands and/or retailers?

I've done a few Google searches but it is very hard to know if the particular ones shown are good quality and worth the money.

Whilst searching I've found some "double" hip flasks, these look really nice so I may be interested in getting one of these.

Certainly, I'd like the hip flask to have a captive top.

Thanks!

If you've got a kilt shop locally then they've usually got a decent selection. Failing that Amazon have a fair range of options although what the quality is like for all I cannot say - the one I bought was pretty cheap but seems reasonably well made, I took the general view that they're all likely to be much of a muchness.

As semi-pro says if you have a kilt shop locally they should have a good choice. If you're in Scotland then a local jeweller should also have some. Dalvey flasks are nice, they aren't captive top though.

Any gun shop or somewhere like scatts will have them, I have a few for the shooting season, my favourite is stainless steel with leather inlays and a screw and flip lid, not to cold to the touch and you don't lose the lid, try and get a funnel as well

Resurrection:

The bay is good for old pewter flasks (have a small collection), also ones that are glass but encased in pewter. I find the antique/collectable have loads more character than the new SS varieties.
Each to their own though:)

What exactly makes a hip flask 'better' quality? It's just a flask surely?

I got a double hip flask for christmas which is great, but it's a little chunky so probably not great for sneaking into events. I think slim is probably the way to go.

EDIT - make sure you get a little funnel to help with the pouring :)

I don't think there would be any difference in quality, once the flask wouldn't leak.

With pewter flasks the whisk(e)y should not be left to stand as leaching occurs, hence the move to SS flasks.
