Hooked my New computer up as my Graphics Card finally arrived, Plugged the PSU into the Mains, flicked the power on switch on on the back of the Hiper Type R and "BANG!!!" Sparks and Flashes Come flying from *** PSU Vents then Smoke!!!!!!!

Iam SO pi**ed off as I bet its killed everything including my 1 day old XFX 7900GT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time to get it Replaced :(

Looks like something must have shorted out in the PSU as I haddent even turned he PC on...

Hmm, that sucks mate. Sorry to hear it :(

Hopefully you haven't fried your system and the psu took the full brunt of whatever it was.

Weird though for it to be such a total and cataclysmic failure, especially as you hadn't turned your pc on yet

their is no voltage selector :(

It says 195 - 240 VAC (Which Im guessing is Variable AC and auto selects the Setting)

:(

Im guessing something must have been shorting in the PSU and when I flicked the Switch on the back to give it power its just blew :(

Trying to contact them for a Manufacturers Fault Number but getting no answer... Must be because of the Bank Holiday....

£600 Worth of BRAND new Hardware as well!!!!... I will be so Pi**ed if its killed it all!!!!

Thing that realy annoys me is how long I spent Building it up and making it all neat and tidy PLUS, I had Quake 4, DOOM 3, HL2 Etc etc all ready and waiting to install and set all settings to Max :(

Well on the plus side when my hiper turns up i know to plug it in and turn it on first before i connect it to my components :p

Sorry again, hopefully the psu isolated the blast and your system is untouched.

you buy cheapo goods and thats what happens.

hiper is just a slighty better version of a Qtec in my eyes.

There are 3 Hiper's. The original one (UK company), the one that was brought out after Coolermaster took them over, and the current one. I think there are definite issues with the early Coolermaster ones, before they got the quality issues sorted.

Unfortunately, as far as I know there is no way of telling what is what, so they all get tarred with the same brush. I do believe (from empirical experience) that the LED ones are significantly less reliable that the Black Label.

The Rattling Part Just Fell out and I noticed the damaged component when looking in the light!!! heres a pic Looks like a Resistor or Ceramic Capacitor or something -

That could have took my eye out if it shot through the mesh / holes

Whats with that big carry case that comes with the 580watt Type R ?? surely thats not needed :p

Perhaps it's for taking it back to the shop in?

The Black/LED thing only applies to Type R 580s (the modular one).

WOW a hiper blows up and takes no components with it, yet a seasonic blows up and takes most things with it, well the hipers are crap but i must admit they are looking good from an explosive point of view. LOL

I know, With a bang the size of that I was expecting something else to have died...

Maybe it was all fine since I didnt switch the PC on, I only switched the PSU on???.
ah right, the hiper is not looking o good at all now. LOL

nothing wrong with hyper type-r psus, something on yours went wrong though and as you say something was shorted...

I built a 580watt type-r system (3200+ venice, 7800GT, Asus SLI mobo, dvdrw, hdd, 2x120mm fans etc) and it runs perfectly giving plenty of juice.

Hipers are good psus along with tagan and all the rest.

i dont think everyone will agree as several people have said theres has blown up or is not working

that's *** same as saying several people had a seagate or WD hdd die in the past (which is *** case) and then saying all those brands of hdd are bad because the drives die...

There is a difference between renowned psu death (qtec) and just a small number of people whos died for reasons unknown from Hiper.

You don't find reviews of Hiper psus saying that the reviewer had any die now, least Ive never seen one...
