Hiper vs Enermax/Corsair

So anyway.........yesterday my Hiper TypeR 580w went pop and I started looking for a replacement;

Enermax Infiniti 650w or Corsair HX 620w.

Then I realised that my Hiper is still under warranty but it was too late.......because I'd already got it into my head that I was gonna buy a new one!

So the question is, is it worth it? Will one of those be quieter and give me more potential for oc'ing or should I just get the Hiper repaired and spend the money on something else?

Just get the Hiper repaired, it would be wasteful and childish to replace it with a new one when you can have a new Hiper for "free".

I agree with the above post. Once you have RMA'd the Hiper, sell it and buy a decent PSU before it goes pop again. Hiper's don't have a very good history record.

I was wondering about that. I won't know if anything's been damaged till I get a PSU back in the machine.

If it has damaged the other components, is it possible to claim that from Hiper?

Ordering the Enermax now.

I think the fuss over the hipers is now over as they have improved the quality in their products greatly recently.

However I'm not really qualified to comment as I have an Enermax in my PC.

The TYPE-R Hiper I had was awsome, lasted 2 years, someone else has got it now, but Mav posted some pics up before of another Hiper unit, and it was very lite and empty compared to previous ones.

Why is he childish for not wanting a hiper? I dont trust them and wouldn't buy them.

Quite agree. I lost components to a exploding Hiper and it was'nt one of the newer empty looking ones. RMA it and sell it on the bay, then get a decent psu. The reason that there are not many horror stories circulating now is probably due to most people getting rid of the damn things.

whoever built the type-r 580w's dont build the new hipers. the new ones i believe are CWT's, server grade in other words. its all very well saying dont buy this, dont buy that but id suggest you look in to just who builds whom for whom:)

Hiper are like Northern Rock. They're brand name is tarnished forever and while the new one's are quite possibly being built by different people, who can be bothered to buy one, o/c their PC and test their reliability? Especially when there are much better alternatives availible. I've got a Hiper Type R, hasn't failed (yet) but I can't wait to get rid of it.

But considering there is better competition why ever tell someone to buy one? Id feel bad if i told someone to buy one and it blew up, especialy knowing their past. It would be like using the person as a test dummy.

What hiper did was very low as far as im consered. To build up a great reputation for excelent powersupplys then change all the parts for cheap parts and then up the serposid wattage of the psu and still sell them without people knowing is foul play. Their 580w was only good for about 380w, any over and it couldn't handle it. They should have been done in by trading standards. Its like taking a ferrari then replacing all the parts with those from a nisan micra and still selling them for the same price and hoping no one will notice!

Have Qtec ever been done in by trading standards?

Does that make what hiper did less wrong?

There is nothing wrong with what they did, yes its called the Hiper Type-R 580W but if you look at the specs is clearly states on the +12V rails it gives out 360W. And the fact they can run a 2900XT and a heavily overclocked C2D is a good sign tbh, I had a Hiper for 2 years and it was the best PSU I owned, just as good as my HX520W tbh.

Best cpu you owned? its just as good as a 520w corsair which actually gives near 520w??

Your saying that a psu which is made so badly taht it can onyl deleiver 380w why they are tricking the customer which it can handle 580w when anywhere near 500w and its goign to go pop and you think its as good as the corsair?

Come on what your arguing is just stupid.

Your right farrair wrote all over it 0-60 in 3seconds but in the small print they said 0-60 in 15seconds so obiously they arn;t trying to trick the customer ooo no its there fault for beleiving it would actually do what they say it does on the tin!

Well now I feel wasteful for buying the Enermax replacement, stupid for buying the Hiper in the first place and stressed out at the thought that it might of nuked the rest of my pride and joy. :(

I almost wish I'd never asked. I'm genuinely worried now. :(

What can i get from Hiper if it has damaged other components?

I said best PSU I owned, not CPU.

Now if you look at the Type-R 580W specs, you can clearly see that on the 12V rails its 360W, now add the res up and you'll see its just over 580W, thats how they are getting the number, but anyone who is able to read will see on the 12V rails its got 360W.

The PSU is not made so badly thats the stupid talk, you think because some PSU's go pop they are all bad? My C2D and 2900XT could run off the Type-R fine and so could other peoples.
