... So i got this card and its great, part from the fan sounds like its purring!!! lol

Its not massively loud but i can hear it.

Has anyone else had this and knows how to solve it?

Or, whats a good replacement fan for it?

Cheers.

I can't hear mine at all, not even under load, mind, it never goes above 33%. Have to raise it to 40% for me to hear it at all.

The fan on my old Sapphire 6870 was quite good, not silent by a long stretch, but perfectly tolerable. The card never got that hot, and the fan stayed firmly in the 25-33% area. The noise once it was cranked up to 100% was another matter. The fan in my Sapphire 6850 is very good too. I suppose it depends on what your personal tolerances are and where you PC is located on your desk.

With my crappy ol' XFX 6850 I had to set a custom profile in MSI afterburner to clear a dodgy section of the fans RPM range, where it began to 'rattle'. Anywhere between 40 and 50% was a big no no noise wise.

Mind, I didn't want to appear if I did some sort of Godlike event for mine NOT to make a noise! :D Just how it came out the box, Vinny, perhaps spin the fan with your finger and check that it isn't catching on the cowl.

really quiet unless when gaming I mute the sound and listen for it

My god man, you LOOK for trouble? :D OTOH, if you suspect it's going to make a noise, put your headphones on and the card is silent once more :)

I an fairness, its not loud, not at all. The only reason I'm hearing it really is that the rest of my components are dam near silent! :D

I should just stop being a fusy sod, cause as someone said earlier, when i'm playing games or what not, i can't hear it! lol

Cheers anyway guys :D

I too are running the 6870 and on any game, bench or idle i've never heard any purring noises lol!! definitely worth getting that checked out. Only time it becomes discomforting is when the fan is above 40% because its a big fan, which from 40-100% because this card has a special gift of recreating heathrow airport inside your case on those speeds, also of which you have to do manually as it only ever raises to about 32% tops under auto fan and even that keeps it cool :)
