Hi there. just found a great deal on a LAN external enclosure that comes with a 500gb Hitachi disk. I have stuck with Samsung and Seagate (quiet and speed, which ever i need) for years now. How are Hitachi doing with their new drives?

Nothing wrong with Hitachi stuff, it's only in the last year or so that others have overtaken them for speed.

Can't say I'm surprised really, we sold Storage Technology to them because we couldn't make a profit either. The guys in San Jose spend a vast amount of money on R&D but they haven't come up with anything really ground breaking since the GMR heads so it's just been catch up since.

Yup, I do indeed.
Probably a daft question, but worth a shot anyway.

Are you able to help me with an error that I get on my machines (I think two machines of mine get the error, maybe all) when I run the latest DFT either from a floppy or bootable CD-RW?

Hitachi have yet to provide me with a soloution, therefore I simply use an older version of DFT if I need to use it. :(

I doubt I can be of much assistance at that sort of level. I haven't dealt with anyone from Storage Technology / Hitachi for about 5 years, even when I was there it was only for some data management consultancy.
