I'm considering buying either a 4gb or 6gb Microdrive for my EOS D60. Does anyone think this would be a good move - I'm currently stuck with a 1gb CF card, and the additional space would be nice! However if anyone knows of any downsides to using these, advance warning would be helpful.

Cheers folks :)

Battery drain, very slow - your camera will probably slow to a crawl.
Microdrives really aren't suitable for cameras, nevermind dSLR's.
Spend the money on some CF cards - I'm sure people have mentioned picking up decent 1GB CF's for as little as ~ £16.

For the price of 1 or 2 1Gb high speed CF cards you can get a digital backup drive that will give you 20Gb of storage and is highly portable.

Something like the Jobo Giga One is meant to be good, however I built mine own from Ebay (no brand electronics HK) for about £30 all in :) Probably break in 6 months but it would have been worth it by then!

I bought one many years ago, in direct contradiction to everyone telling me not to, as they suck batteries dry and fail regularly.

It worked fine! Until it failed 9 months later.

Don't bother!
