Ok I got a 250gb hitachi to send for rma and I just rooted about in my storage shed and found a seagate approved transpac box with really thick foam sections (the drive sits in a cutout section in the middle). Now on the hitachi site they seem a bit fussy about packaging so will this seagate box be ok or will hitachi use it as an exscuse to void it, they seem fussy about general condition of the drive aswell as mine has a few marks from fitting into cases etc.

Ive rma'd a few seagates now and ive never even worried about this stuff but seeing as this is my first hitachi im a little paranoid about it.

I have kept always kept these cases that came with my seagates:

If you have got this, I would send it in that, inside the foam cutout box. Just to be on the safe side!

Actually, not 2 years ago now I bought someone a 40GB IDE hitachi drive as their hard drive died, and it didn't come in one of those protectors, just the foam cutout box.

I think hitachi wont approve those clamshell things, I have loads of em aswell. I just got an email from them with my rma number and a link with acceptable packaging guidlines. My box looks suitable :)
