Tyre looks like it has been bad for a while judging by the condition across whole of tread.

[edit] what car is that, looks like a Ford, its not a mondeo , fiesta maybe ?

That'd be lethal in the rain, quite a thick tyre though. Did you chuck big alloys and tyres on and its messed the suspension settings up maybe?

I had similar once, noticed one of my rear tyres was shredded so bad the tyre was bulging from where the tread used to be. Ive no idea how it happened, it was a rwd car but not even slightly powerfull

Do kwik fit do tracking? I've had to replace my track rod ends and the tracking really needs to be done, but most garages can' do it until the end of the week.

Yes, I've just been and had it done this morning.

Sticking little lead weights on the rim of the wheel to stop that nasty steering wheel shake you exerience if weight isnt evenly distributed around the wheel.

What does a balance involve?

The wheels are tested on a machine for any heavy spots in the wheel, and a lead counter balance is added to the wheel to compensate.

Even a few ounces of unbalanced weight causes vibration through the wheels.
