Hobbiton! Taken over by....SHEEP!

Agreed

Popeye village rakes in £££ in Malta and that was a crap film, Holmfirth makes a living off Last of the summer wine in the bleak hills of yorkshire and lets not forget those crazy people that go to the town were Ballamory is filmed in a remote village in scotland
With such a huge following behind lotr they could have made massively more money via tourists than a few sheep.

The Studios insisted on removing all the props straight after filming though, so its just a farm - nothing special. The funny thing is that it's definitely no sheep country in that part of Aoetearoa - its much more dairy farms.

Matamata is the name of the place where Hobbiton was located on a farm. There's nothing in Matamata but farms, cows and sheep. It's not a place to go really - there's sooo many more interesting and beautiful things to see than a bit of grass.
;)

...?

I fail to see your point...?

If it was kept in the condition as it was when it was filmed, it would be a place to visit on a tour, or 'site seeing' attraction, currently yes its a field with hills and sheep in it.
