Holiday 2011: WTF would you do?

As you have friends in the states thats probs the better choice but that depends on when you last saw them too :) Driving through Europe is awsome and tbh most ppl speak a bit of english these days.

So a pretty divided opinion all in all!

Seeing friends in the US would be nice, but thinking about it now would add a fair chunk on to the cost of the trip. Plus I've not spoken to them for some time now, so some might even question going to see them in the first place. I'm going to remove that from my decision, and base it solely on a Cali road trip.

I'm leaning towards option 1 as I've always wanted to visit the west coast, obviously it's going to cost a darn sight more than than 2 but I think the benefits outweigh that. Option 2 is still something I'd consider, next year maybe. See how successful the US trip is. :D

Yeah the cost is a bummer for sure. But if you can afford it now, maybe it's best to do it now rather than not be able to afford to do it later in life. Take the opportunity when it best comes at you.

And I'm kinda going on the stereotype here as I've only been to New York and also haven't driven in the states, but it might be cheaper for "gas" out there and food generally isn't supposed to be too pricey. Which is more than I can say for France...

i did route 66 - drove from chicago to vegas to LA, 3500miles in total and it was the best holiday i've ever done.

Those saying the US isnt that great and is full of fat people have probably only been to florida for a holiday and have missed the best parts of the US.

Houston is very full of fat people. Driving in texas is boring as hell (miles and miles of I-10 and concrete roads) and a Brit accent in Houston isnt that much of a big deal.

I spend too much time in that part of the US (with work) so unless you have a dieing need to go to the space center dont go its not a tourist place its a work place.

As for the rest of the US, its a huge place, the reason most Yanks dont have a passport is they really dont need one, you can do anything you want in the US if go to the right place.

I'd probally go the US route just dont stay in Houston for more than a couple of days.
