I get what they're trying to do, but the article explains it very badly. You can't boil a vacuum. If there's something there, it isn't a vacuum. That's what I'm getting at.

... read the bit about what constitutes a vacuum. A vacuum isn't "nothing" - that's what they are trying to prove!

Detecting their existence. At present they are said to move so fast that nothing we have can see them hence why it's a scientific theory. This test will hopefully turn it into scientific fact. By tearing them apart their speeds I guess would be affected and their existence detected.
