Bit of an odd question...

My Dad helps out at a local Church, and they want to get broadband installed as a community/cyber cafe type affair for about 4 computers.

Does anyone know if you can just get "Home" broadband installed, or do they have to have a "Business" line? Seems a bit pointless having business, as its more expensive and probably OTT for their needs.

Can't see any restrictions about "Home" broadband not being available for business/charity/church/cybercafe users, but didn't know if was so obvious that it didn't need to be said ;)

Incidentally, as an aside, how would they stand in terms of internet filtering? Do they HAVE to have it? I assume if they didn't, they'd be liable for any 'illegalities' any user was partaking in?

Not sure about the first part, at the end of the day the worst thing they could do is refuse to provide the service and ask you to sign up for an appropriate package.

As for liability, yes they would be responsible for any use that takes place over their connection. So you should probably look at getting some sort of content filtering (some sort of HTTP proxy would be ideal) and also the ability to log which machine generated the traffic and who was using that machine at a given point in time.

It would be up for the ISPs to decide what packages and charges they offer, so it is worth trying a home connection. Probably best to set up OpenDNS content filtering, which is free and only takes a few minutes to do.

I doubt most are bothered. We use a Home connection in our office. The ISP said 'fine' and will even provide VAT receipts.
