Hey all,

Recently in neighbourhood theres been a few break-ins etc, and would like to install a couple of cameras asap to atleast deter.

However I cant seem to workout which route to go down, I only need about 3 cameras outside the house to cover my property. I recently bought a server (n40L), and got me thinking of two possible routes:

1. Get a couple of IP cameras and have them save footage to the server(cheapest method - it seems).
2. Get a dedicated DVR to store footage and allow viewing on mobile devices etc.

Any ideas on what route to go down? Theres some fairly cheap kits on auction sites but are they worth anything?

I had mine professionally installed. It isn't a wireless jobbie, but we have a series of high quality infa red cameras with sound which go into a recording box which can be viewed by monitor or mobile device.

Sounds good, how much was your setup roughly? Anyone got any ideas how much I should pay for 3-4 cameras with DVR fully fitted, theres an ad up on gumtree for £500 incl all equipement and fitting.

Tbh, in my experience, for a home system (i.e, not a high end £500 for a fixed camera system) you'd be looking in the region of £600 for the equipment, minimum. Fitting would be the same again, depending where you live.

That's for some (4) decent resolution IR vandal dome cameras, with a Sony super had 1/3" ccd chip, proper IR cut filters and a decent lens. Coupled with a reliable recorder with good quality remote access and a PSU that wont burn your house down.

Was looking to spend max £4-500, but I guess you get what you pay for it.

Ill call a few local places tomorrow and let you guys know what quotes I get etc.
