To compliment the Hitachi 42PD9700 that should be with me shortly, I need to replace my speakers. I currently have a set of Eltax Hollywood surround speakers that were bought from a discount audio retailer which give a decent sound (to my ears) but need to go as the wife hates the look of them!

She is after a set of small silver* surround speakers, with a sub for bass.
Although she loves the KEF egg shaped speakers, we need to be able to wall mount whatever we go for.
Budget is £300 tops, and we already have a Dolby DTS amp.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Cheers

*Yes, silver is important to her, after all -she is female!

I know it's well over your budget but the Accoustic Energey Aego T's are getting some stunning reviews, I'd try and get a listen if you can.

I'll give that a miss thanks.
There's not a lot of point getting to hear some £700 speakers, when I can only afford £300 speakers.

No if you go and demo a £700 setup you'll put off buying the £300 system and probably save up for the better system.

Ignorence is bliss, I guess. ;) IMO you won't get a decent 5.1 speaker system plus amplifier for £300.

HTIB/Satellite speakers leave very much to be desired in the sound quality department. If you're not bothered with sound quality...

Tell (and I mean tell) the wife get back in the kitchen and buy whatever you like...get a few of these, wall to wall. Paint the walls, floors, ceiling black, and brick up the windows.

I couldn't find any uglier, larger speakers :D

No, £300 is excluding amp. I already have an amp.

Really, it's not just a case of being able to afford £700 speakers (not that I can), it's not being able to justify £700 speakers.

When most times I listen to home cinema setups at friends houses, they are running a £100 box set from Woolies etc, then I would hope that buy spending £300 on just the speakers I would get something a bit better.
I appreciate that there is a direct correlation between price and quality, but for me there is a direct correlation between spending large sums of money on electricals and the amount of cold shoulder I receive from her indoors!
