I was talking to some of my friends today, who do body building and the likes. One said that he makes his own protein drinks, he said he puts milk, bananas and milk shake(like nestle) powder in his.

Is this just rubbish or is it actually a decent protein drink? I really dont wanna cash out on the expensive stuff myself and if this is good enough i might just make myself some.

Any other recomendations?

Doesn't sound like much to me

It really isn't expensive. You'd probably take around 300g of protein powder (30g each morning, and an extra 30g post workout) each week. It costs about £10 a kilo , hardly expensive.

i use the same stuff except it costs me $15 per kilo which isnt bad at all , you get a lot of decent protein from it and its a lot cheaper then buying all the milk and eggs etc.

I use Holland & Barretts own brand of Soya protein isolate. Tastes alright, though it might take a bit of getting used to at first, and it blows a lot of the more expensive stuff out of the water in terms of protein percentage. Reasonably priced, and if you keep an eye out you can pick it up in bulk when they have one of their sales. ;)

I just mix it with semi-skimmed milk. I am considering switching to water though, to reduce the fat content...it's just the idea of what that will do to the taste that is putting me off!

i use whey isolate from aviform. Because I buy in bulk and its unflavoured it works out alot cheaper than the brand name flavoured stuff. I'm use to drinking it just in water. But I use to make shakes with bananas, ice cream and so on. Its no big thing.

If that is all he is using then that really wouldnt be a lot of protein, protein shakes are not expensive when you pick the right brands from the right places as mentioned here and will be much much more effective.

People can and do make good quality home made protein shakes (and the one in the op isnt one) but obviously this takes time and they dont always taste as good.
