Being pretty new to the whole networking thing I need some advice

My current router ( Draytek wireless ) is based in my home office and has 3 hard wired connections into it ( my PC , sons X-Box and a Canon multi function printer. Her indoors also uses the connection via her wireless laptop.

Now I will be getting a new internet telly and Sky HD and would prefer it hard wired due to a WDTV Live and NAS being near the telly.

I intended to run a Cat 6 cable from the router underneath the house to the living room about 30-35 feet away from the router and fit a 5 port switch.

Is this the best way of doing this or has anyone a better idea ? :D

Well I was thinking of going to Sky Broadband unlimited and using a new better router. Point taken about the 8 port switch ;)

Well TBH thats the reason for going with the unlimited package and a 1tb HD box as both anytime+ and these new internet tellys can be bandwidth monsters and I'm currently on a capped tariff ;)

There are ways and means of getting the username and password from a Sky router ! In fact they sent me 2 new N routers !

Is there any limit on the length of CAT cable you can run before the performance degrades ??

Apologies for the ninja edit !
