Hi, my employer is inviting somebody to come and work for him, she is Israeli. His spoken English is fantastic, but his writing leaves little to be desired so he has asked me to write a letter to the home office, I'm assuming it's to help with her visa.

Who would I address this too, I don't think he knows himself. Any help on wording it would be much appreciated too :)

regards

Karl

wouldn't do what any good?

I'm waiting for him to call me back so we can clear up a few things, then I can find out what he really needs this letter for.

"To whom it may concern" would be a start.

That's how I started it.

I'm not sure if she's in Israel, might actually be in Tunisia.

Either way she has to apply for a working visa to the british embassy in the country she is residing in. You writing a letter wont aid her cause, unless you work for the israelie embassy here and even then its doubtful it will help her cause.

Right, she has already applied for a visa, and needs this letter to take with her confirming she will be employed by my manager. The letter has to confirm her details, passport number etc.

Now I'm getting somewhere

An israeli in tunisia! I hope not, if he/she is i hope there keeping it quiet!
writing a letter to the authorities on a foreign nationals behalf will do no good. they ahve to apply for a visa through the local embassy or consulate of their own accord.

unless of coruse you've been contacted by the authorities. In which case you'll have to confirm the details that they ask, this may include such as address of stay in the UK and confirmation of employment.

edit: as it says above :p

Maybe she has a really good disguise :p

I am writing it for my boss, This lady needs it for them to approve her visa application or something.

Would I need to state the length of her employment.

At the moment I have

To whom it may concern

{Details of foreigner}

I am writing to inform you that {name} is being invited to work at {company} at the above address.

Your sincerely

etc etc.

If I'm right I think my employer needs to apply for a work permit for this lady, I hope he knows this.

I hate having to sort out problems for my boss, especially when I have no blinking idea myself on how these things work.

I dread the words "Karl can you help me with something" every-time I go to work, it could be that I'm the only British employee there though.
