Well, it's about the deadline if you want to brew for new years and have time to mature it - so what have you got planned?

Being the jobless bum at the mo, with my boiler being unreliable and without the cash (priority!) to fix it I think I may dig out an old Wherry kit I have. So 20 quit gives me 40 pints of good creamy bitter for new years!

I think I may take some photos along it's life to show how easy it is as a beer kit!

So what have you planned?

My kegs are full, and I'm currently on 'detox'. So nothing for a while.

Might make a stout next time, I'm still to test my new and improved hop filter too.

Siphons from the bottom very nicely indeed (at least it does with water)

Nice - which boiler is that?

I\d probably give it a few more holes, I think the hop/protein mix may block them if you ony have a few small ones at the bottom.

Sounds like a good idea - I'd be interested in following you're progress if you do decide to make you're own home brew.

Quite fancy trying it myself - though I can see my other half being very supportive :p

// Edit Nick - post a pic in you're post in the random pic thread or you may face a holiday bud :(

Burco 27L, there's loads and loads of 3mm holes on the bottom, move the holes up any higher and I'll lose such a good siphon

My first brew (Wherry) will be ready by the end of November so there's no chance of there being any left by Christmas let alone New Years.

The family's getting together for Christmas so I was hoping to have something home made for them to drink. I was planning to make a Hoegaarden-esque beer but it won't be ready in time. Have you got any recommendations for quick brews (ale or lager, not stout)?

I have a Great Eastern kit in one of my kegs.

Next up is a coopers IPA using spray malt and lastly a coopers stout with spray malt, which I will bottle.
Oh and the wifes red wine (need to start that asap :) )

Roll on xmas :D

All of my cornis are full at the moment, but I did a brew last week that should be perfect for the holiday period:
4kg Maris Otter, 400g Crystal, and challenger hops at 90 mins and 15 mins to give around 32IBU. Had a quick taste yesterday and its lovely already!

Just finished my beer fridge too. It holds 2 cornis and is temperature controlled. I have 2 taps coming out through the front door, so perfect beer every time!

I brewed up the Old Peculier recipe from Graham Wheeler's book yesterday. Nice and dark, and an OG of about 1060 (target was 1058). It's bubbling away nicely at the moment :)
