Apparently im using 2924 megs of ram running 4800x900 in bf3 with ultra settings (fxaa high, no hbao), seems a little high to me. Im sure i seen a video a while back with a guy running 3 580's in 5760 res getting slightly over 2 gigs usage with ultra settings.

Video card memory isn't cumulative in sli/crossfire. A single gtx470 (for example, as I happen to have ran both single and sli) has 1280mb ram usable. In sli, it's still 1280mb, as SLI is basically just 1 card processes one from, the other card the next. It increases frame rate due to the extra core, but memory is still going to be identical.

Also, with ultra settings, HBAO on and 2xAA I get 1200mb usage at 1080p, the maximum the cards can reasonably use

I know, im just suprised its went that high.

1200mb ono as well here with sli'd 470's, ultra settings with medium post aa, 1920x1200, 16x af blur and hbao off.

I thought with crossfire you had to divide the figure by two (roughly, as two cards), so it will be around 1.45GB each card?

Not sure how it works for crossfire memory reading really, just assumed the reading was accurate.

WIth crossfire cards the memory is mirrored, So say a game takes 480meg of ram with 1 card in afterburner it would say 960meg in crossfire or sli.

Afterburner seems a little odd sometimes tbh. It reports over 3.5gb usage at times for me on HL2 cine mod 11. Crossfired 6950's (2gb version).
