how amazing is team fortress 2 !!

However, I know Saigns.de servers have increased ammo, movement speed and damage for donators. I don't know why anyone without a premium account would pay there, so they are probably pretty awful servers anyway :3

They also use altered player counts, so the browser always shows at least 18 people playing there, that plus the low ping I get from them used to make them appear at the top of my list way too often.

Thankfully though one of their sever tags is 'Saigns', so rather than having to blacklist all their severs individually you can just put that in the excluded tags box and they all go away.

Indeed, other than a reserved slot (which is still frigging annoying when its you it chooses to kick) why would anyone play on a server with special boosts for the premium payers. Its effectively cheating.

I assume its so they can feel good about themselves wtfpwning all the 'noobs' without premium accounts and seeing them 'ragequit' because of it. But yeah, it just means everyone will blacklist the servers, and it will just be premiums playing against each other, which means everyone is on a level playingfield... kind of, as I doubt any site like that would be able to get the balance done anywhere near as well as Valve.

Im sure this question has been asked before, so apologies for repeating...

But is there any way anyone who purhased TF2 when it was first released have any argument for a refund as it is now a completely different game, or is this covered in the License agreement?

You could just play on a vanilla server.

From the Vanilla TF2 Unite! (VTU!) Steam Group:

Q: What is Vanilla TF2?

A: Vanilla TF2 is the game the way Valve intended it. No gameplay changes (shortened respawn, disabled crits, class limits, no more than 24 players, modified mavity/health/damage, etc) or other modifications of that nature.

Custom maps are considered Vanilla with some possible exceptions. Administration and Voting mods are considered Vanilla, as long as the voting does not allow for players to change core gameplay (respawn timers, mavity, crits, etc); in other words map change voting is OK.

Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to tell without joining. Once you're in, and you start seeing things telling you to try out a premium account and so on, I usually die, alt tab and check out their websites to see what the benefits are. On several servers its just things like hats, all visual stuff without changing gameplay, or things like auto-balance protection and reserved slots. I'm happy to play on these servers, as they are encouraging people to fund the server without unbalancing the game. However, I know Saigns.de servers have increased ammo, movement speed and damage for donators. I'd recommend finding some good servers and just sticking to them. Since I found INX public 3, I've spent hundreds of hours there getting to know everyone. It's much better than trying to find servers and having to trawl through the rubbish ones.

INX public 3? Could you post the IP? I've got the two OcUK ones favourited from the server list, but there isn't usually anyone on there. Thanks :)

Awesome. Just finished playing for the night (On the No Heroes server), but I'll check that out tomorrow. I've recently taken up playing as the Spy again, Your Eternal Reward is great fun. I've had times where I simply got behind a line of enemies and just ploughed through them. Leaves no trace, and you change disguises so fast its hard for the enemy to keep track of who you are. Needs to be used with the Cloak and Dagger for getting past all the enemies, since you don't get a disguise its game over if you happen to uncloak in sight of someone, the C&D lets you get right to the back where you can deal the most damage.

It is lovely being able to backstab the Engineer without the Sentry even noticing the transition, definitely really situational though being unable to disguise.

Indeed, sentry nests are now easy to take out as you can simply backstab the engineer and then you have all the time you need to sap everything. Only problem is that you do have to have killed someone first so you can actually approach the engi, but hey, that's not too difficult.

Settle down kids or i'll have to get the vaseline out..

Most people just turn the car around, bet your kids are quiet on long journeys :p

Indeed, though sometimes its better to just go Demo >< I always seem to end up on the cramped CP maps where you get 4 Engineers building a sentry in the same square foot of space.

Maybe you guys should try getting into competitive TF2 if you don't want to use the new weapons? Since a lot of the weapons are banned in competitive play. I absolutely love watching competiitve 6v6 games. The European TF2 League has just started, so all of Europe's top teams are playing a lot and you can watch their games via source tv. I find 6v6 more fun than 24-28 player random mayhem anyway. In public servers where it's just about having fun, all the new weapons really don't matter to me. They add variety and fun elements to the game, I'm not that bothered if they don't fit with Valve's original plan for the game. I'm happy with sticking to competitive play for the "serious" games and public servers for complete madness with insane weapons.

Comp TF2 is the only reason I still play TF2 (along with the Hampshire Heavies servers, I highly recommend more people playing them.
