how amazing is team fortress 2 !!

Ive always wanted to get into it, but it just always seemed a bit too much like hard work. Is there tutorial servers so you play without getting slagged off for being a noob and that teach you what to do with each class?

Same, had it a while but I'm such a total n00b at it that it's not all that enjoyable!

I've had this years, since I bought orange box and have never even installed it. It just looks odd from what I've seen. I might have to install it at some point though as it seems to be very popular.

Never liked tf2 myself.

just felt meh.

dunno i prefer cs/bf games where guns actually seem to do dmg.

This is exactly how I felt, gave it a try, didnt care much about the looks really but every class I tried just felt very underwhelming, just really weak weapons. a lot rave about it but it really wasnt my cup of tea.

Saw the price and bought this today. Downloading now.

Never played it before and I've only played about 5 minutes of the original when it was first out. :p

Hopefully it wasn't a waste of £6.99!

I can see where you're coming from. However, I've never been a fan of realistic games that take 1 shot to kill you. I've never consistently played one of these games online ever, I always get bord after a few days. I don't like the idea of whoever sees who first wins the fight. Maybe I'm just rubbish and that isn't how it works, but it seems to me like I would die most of the time just because the guy was behind me. TF2 isn't anything like that, especially if you play soldier and can rocket jump away from anything.

For me it's very samey. Although there are a lot of classes it's still the same maps and styles. Like on Quake, etc. you would have a map rotation of around 20-40 different maps making things more interesting - on TF2 I just see the same maps all the time.

It's also achievement based which means most people just go on hacked servers and get all the achievements so that they can compete at the level everyone else is now at (i.e. it's not balanced because if you start late then you can't really catch up).

It's an average game IMHO.

I like how easy it is to get into and how well thought out the maps are. It helps to play with friends and on a good server that you know (I find GTFOgaming servers to be pretty good). Wish I had picked this up before. Also watching Battlefield BC2 - 19.99 on Steam at the moment, but should be good in a 50-70% off sale (probably at Christmas) :D

I've been playing this since beta and still use the original weapons on all classes, they are the best. The new weapons rarely have an advantage over the originals they are just different.

I find it quite a relief when people use the new weapons. Soldier vs soldier is no problem if your opponent is using the direct hit, the guy with the original will win almost every time because of the lack of splash damage and being bounced around by the normal rocket launcher makes it hard to aim. Same with demoman vs anything, it's very easy to kill a demoman who is using the sword and shield. I really don't like the targe, I don't find it fun to use whatsoever, I don't really see the appeal.

never played it and saw it was on offer today half price, installed it and my god is it fun ahah. very fast paced, very nice gameplay. just thought id share this with you :)

ITT: team fortress 2 discussion :)

Hi, welcome to almost 3 years a go :D

In all fairness it is a great game and stands the test of time. No matter what games have been released since this game always pulls me back when the others get overplayed/boring. I think the main reason for this is that public games are more about fun than killing and "srs, omg my kdr is only 3" type of players might not enjoy it as much.

I think the best thing about it other than the balanced, fun game play is the fact that Valve are constantly developing/updating it which keeps it fresh and new.

Spot on, if this was any other game, and they gave you a totally new game style (payload), then new weapons, then customisable character appearance, some new maps, then more new weapons, some more new maps, then more new weapons... well, i'm pretty sure we'd be looking at COD 6,7 & 8 by now.

To people moaning about the maps in TF2, why do you try a better server? I recommend the Hampshire Heavies server - new and old maps are played all the time.
