Mostly MP3's, some ZIP, some FLAC...

How... just how? If that were ALL FLAC I could understand. How many albums is that? Mine is 2,500 albums, 127GB of mp3s and most of those are 256kb or below. And that's after years and years of daily buying of CDs, ripping promos, digital downloads and 'acquired' downloads.

Frankly I have never counted how many exactly, and it is two peoples collections. Probably upward of 8000 albums, that total includes music videos as well, but not my movie collection which is really humongous.

I currently have just over 1TB of 320kb/FLAC ripped/downloaded music and around the same in random lower formats I've collected over the years. I used to get loads of white lable records on a weekly basis which was a perk of the job at the time so I ripped all those too. I think I have 11,000 albums give or take a few.

I've seriously thought about formatting the lower quality stuff as it sounds rubbish on my new sound system.

Server with 8x2Tb hard drives in it.
Currently running about 80% full, but that includes a few duplicates that I'm hunting down and removing at the moment due to my uselessness.

All FLAC, mostly 16bit 44.1khz stereo, but the vinyl rips go up to 24bit 192khz stereo, and the DVD-A rips are up to 24bit 96khz 5.1 *which are sizeable*

All ripped by myself apart from the live bootlegs and the live performances bought from nugs.net.

I listen to far too much music. :D

*edit* Just remembered that there is several years of F1 podcasts on there, all the Kevin Smith podcasts and a few coffee related ones. So not all FLAC. :D

Bloody eck. How many albums are we speaking, roughly? Plus, what is the 'average' size of a FLAC album? The majority of my music (57.5gb) is 128kbps MP3. Only have one FLAC album, don't see the point in it for me. My equipment is never going to be able to provide the difference.

Easily 5 figures of albums. It doesn't help that I tend to be a completest, and I also love hunting out alternative pressings and masterings... Means I can have multiple versions of the same album. Just checked and I've got 13(!) different versions of Please Please Me by The Beatles - The only one I really play is the Japanese Red Mono Vinyl from 1982 and thats a 24bit 192khz FLAC file.

As for file sizes, I have sizes in the range of CD Singles @ 60mb all the way up to Vinyl and DVD-A encodes in the 5gb range and pretty much every size inbetween. It seems for me that the average size of an CD in FLAC is about 400mb

I use it because it's lossless. I can if needed convert from this to anything else easily, not that I need too, all my media players handle FLAC natively. I also have various streaming devices that handle FLAC so they just play straight from the server.

I'll tell you what else you have... too much time and money. ;)
