Theres a decoder card Im looking at for a htpc solution, which is mini pci-e based... my board, prob like most, doesnt boast a mini pci-e slot, and Ive tried without joy to locate some sort of mini pci-e to pci-e adapter, sort of like a riser card, that will fix to the backplates....

Anyone help, or suggest an alternative method of securring such a card...??

Yeah, that would do. I think I've seen a pci-e x8 to four mini-pci card adapter too.

Can you get anything particularly exciting in mini-pci form factor? Might be a way of fitting more hardware in a smaller space

Oh right, the decoder card people have been putting in netbooks. Cool. Other things for mini-pci seem to be flash based storage, gps units, various wireless cards. For a m-atx or mini-itx system with few expansion slots this could be genuinely helpful.
Found a card that lets you fit eight mini cards into one pci slot. Bandwidth limited presumably but still exciting.
