What happened with Clarky was that the clever bloke used the bank details to donate money to charity![]()

Giving him my Sort code and account number is not risky is it?
Have you ever paid somebody by cheque? If so, you've given them your S/C and A/C number.

Every time I read anything about bank details all I can think about and hear in my head is the voice of:

Send the money to my account to see if it works... I'll send it on... honest.I have to do this myself. Do they or i have to set something up online or can i just go ahead and send the money

I've never even needed the account name when setting up an online bank transfer from my bank although perhaps it differs from bank to bank.
stumpy187, if you aren't already set up for online banking then you (rather obviously) would need to arrange that first, if you just want to do it as a one off then simply pop into your local branch and they should be able to arrange it. The other option is to go into a branch of the bank that you are sending the money to for an over the counter deposit - this should be the quickest way, you'll need an account number, sort code and the account name.
I can check my account online but i've never really bothered clicking around to see what else is there i'd rather just be off spending more money. Ill just nip in the bank tomorrow when im off just thought i'd save myself a job.
