How Clubbing changed the world

glad you had a good one - bit late though?

Even more so considering I remember Out of Space when it came out lol :p

Was just a combination of tickets selling out or working getting in the way.
Lost my phone in the mosh pit and only had it 6 weeks!! didn't care.
Also remember almost breaking my mates foot when they dropped No Good; musta leapt a coupla foot in the air and landed on her foot (oops!)

As others have said, 1998-2001/2

Think Kevin and Perry go large, Crazy film but some of the music in that film is epic.

See, now this is what i hate dub'bro'step for, introducing moshing into electronic music clubs. All of a sudden you have metal headz going to clubs that chase and status are playing at and a mosh pit appears, now its standard. Ruined it, people used to have respect for those around them, no longer can you go and stand infront of the speakers without being willing to be punched, pushed and jumped on. Rubbish, cant dance?, then go home and listen on headphones.

For the documentary to bang on and on about garage and dubstep and not to mention trance is a complete FAIL. It was trance that made the UK superclubs so massive and its trance that we all feel in love with in the late 90s.

Gatecrasher didn't even get a mention...... WTF!

and shortly after gatecrasher slipped into a garage club it shut ;) maybe thats why they mentioned it :p

I've always listened to electronic music at every point in my life, never did care for rock bands etc. I'm now 30 and like to think back how my tastes changed...

Early 90s - Chart dance music
Mid 90s - Bouncy Techno / Happy Harcore (North East / Scottish folk will understand the relevance)
Late 90s - Early 00s - Trance
2002/3 - Techno
Now... Techno but particulalrly the detroit sound, I'm very hard to please now :(

Best years? Now. :D The clubbing scene is MENTAL at the moment. Nothing like Fabric on a Playaz, Ram or Dub Police night.

Best moment? 4th June 2012, when this happened :D

Given my clubbing cherry was popped in the trance heyday of 1998, 98-01 were magical years for me.

Most awesome experience?

Even though I'm not a fan of the track, the atmosphere when it kicked in was like none other I have ever experienced.

I find it really hard to believe what you're saying when the crowd looks SO bored. Honestly, it couldn't look more bereft of atmosphere!

i watched up until grandmaster flash

after 30 mins of watching him 'mix' on traktor and shouting ''stay with me''. i tuned out.

some of the old skool footage was great though.

In terms of the houseparty afterwards, firstly kudos to Channel 4 for at least doing this. Doesnt come close to the RaptureTV events years ago live at Gatecrasher, Godskitchen and Manumission but still brave of a major TV network.

Grandmaster Flash - Loved the scratching, other than that the setlist was cheesy and badly programmed and he clearly needs Traktor to beatmix.

Annie Mac - Ugh, used to like her but so, so boring

A-Trak - Utter tripe, a set programmed to sound hip and cool was just utter garbage. His skills on the decks are technically good but didn't add anything - preferred Grandmaster Flash's scraching as it contributed more

Erick Morillo - Cheese fest but did appreciate some of the classics such as Bucketheads been thrown in, every track had vocals or acapellas laid over which annoyed me. He clearly enjoys himself though so was more pleasurable to watch than Annie Mac. Clearly his strategy was appeal to the masses which all helps with the $$$$ for his label and DJ act

Soul II Soul - Not watched yet

Horse Meat Disco - Not watched yet
