how dirty is your motor?

Mines hanging this week. I was competing in it at a sprint. The rain was awful and it got my car massively filthy. I had no other time to clean it at the weekend, so on Sunday after I played Football I spent a couple of minutes at a pay as you go jet wash and just pressure washing it off.

I thoroughly enjoy cleaning my car and to see it dirty annoys me. My car is due a polish and 2 coats of wax for the winter as well. Best get to that before were in constant rain season....

I'm with Fox, I can't stand it if my everytime I open my boot I can see finger marks in the dirt and have to wash my hands. Being a hatchback makes this problem so much worse as the boot is a dirt magnet

Also, if I can't see a nice reflection in my paint, it bugs me :p

Not cleaning things = internet cool points.

What's the point in having alloys Matt if you just allow years of brake dust to ruin the appearance and corode? Some of you guys are even into styling mods and claim to care how a car looks yet ruin that by leaving them covered in crud?

I don't really get it.

A jet wash once a month is 10 minutes of your time?

as long as its low then youre pretty much alright and wont have to wash it

hth

whats the point of alloys? well as far as i know theyre not there for looks, i doubt theyre significantly lighter than steelies, they just came with the car.

i just have more important things to do. i would love to machine go nuts on the mk4 (its black) and get it really shiney but the only thing thats occupying me with that car is uprating the turbo

Agree with Fox, although i do pretty high mileage so mine gets dirty quite quickly.

I absolutely HATE cleaning cars, i mean seriously i rank it as bad as cleaning out my gutters, or disinfecting the toilets. Horrible job.

I still do it though once every couple of weeks, more if i can bring myself to or am in a supermarket with enough time to let the carpark people do it. If i leave it much longer you end up both turning up looking scruffy to places (the merc goes from a bling looking huge posh merc, to looking like an old knackered taxi once its covered in dirt), but also end up rubbish your shirt/jacket on the bodywork. Cleaning the car is a lot easier than messing up a suit or whatever...

I hate cleaning multi spoke alloys and my brake pads give off stupid amounts of brake dust

I've considered changing the wheels and pads just because of this, honestly by the time i'm on the fourth wheel my hands and knees ache like mad, then I have to apply tyre shine and that needs painting on with a brush so wheels alone take a good while to get up to standard :o

Haven't cleaned my car since August. Mainly as I never got round to buying a bucket, sponge, hose and car shampoo since moving house last year and I'd rather spend my money on something I need rather than pay to have it washed.

It's a company car and it looks like I'll be a getting a new one soon anyway so not in that much of a rush to clean it.

I guess im not really obsessive about cleaning my car. Used to a few years back. By clean though, I do mean get out the old duffle bag full of cleaning products (tm) and spending a good 2-3 hours to the point where all I want to do after is schlomp on the sofa. Trouble is, nowadays I have better/more pressing things to do with my time to be honest.

It does get jetwashed at least once a week, and bits of crap removed from the interior, and a quick wipe over dash. To me that just makes it tidy, not clean.

I have never washed a car. I had my truck 5 years and had it washed twice. Have the e61 washed every few months, so generally it looks somewhat soiled.

Of course they are there for looks. 99% of alloy wheels are fitted for looks.

if i got the cleaning stuff out id end up spending 5-6 hours on each car. its a matter of finding the time and in this weather, motivation is a big thing too because i absolutely hate washing cars.

Mine has not been washed since the local 1.99 car wash has stopped working that was back in june... Its suprisingly not that dirty..

The rain and the photo make them both look cleaner than they actually are:

At last a thread that I can contribute to :D

Haven't washed for it for something like 2+ years and it's not looking that bad if I don't say so myself :)
