How do i get a 7900gtx to do HD output?

Hello, i have a 7900GTX graphics card and i connect it to my home tv via HDMI cable (i think thats the right name for it) and i want to watch a HD movie off my comp onto the tv, does it do it automatically in HD or do i need to change some settings?

i watched a HD film doing this and it was a little clear but it didnt look HD to me, am i doing something wrong?
 
If you have the correct codecs installed and your screen res/refresh rate chosen in the display settings is the same as your Screens optimal/native res then if all HD stuff you have looks poor it could well be that the screen is pants as a monitor or codecs need tweaking, or you just have a bad sample of HD stuff. In actual fact it could be a number of things. What HD material are you viewing through it?

Just make doubly sure that the res output on the PC matches the optimal for you screen first then we can go from there :).
