Hi guys

I've been working on a website for a while now using Rapid Weaver and I was wondering how actually put it online?

When I click publish it asks for

Server
Username
Password
Path

How do I go about having my own domain and making this site live?

Thanks!

You will need to buy a domain name, i.e. http://www.123-reg.co.uk/

You will also need some web hosting like from vidahost or tsohost or any other.

Then you use an ftp program to upload the files.

Thanks mate

Sorry but I'm really new to this stuff.

Firstly, where can I buy a domain name? The FTP program is built in on Rapid Weaver :)

Edit- Thought your e.g was just a random made up site name lol thanks!

Hmm on the setup it says- Add web hosting for £2.49 a month, what is this and do I need it?

Also make sure you choose the right platform. If your site is just plain HTML, anything will do. If you need to use (or are looking to learn) PHP, you need linux/apache, or if you'd prefer to use ASP.Net then you want windows/IIS - which is usually more expensive due to the licenses required by the hosting company.

Site extension is HTML so I'm good right?

Thanks again guys.

What is your website for? If it's just a simple blog, or there isn't much on it then you could get away with a cheaper hosting package that doesn't come with as much features. If you're going to be hosting a lot of content and files then you're going to need to pay more for the space!

It's a proper site dude! Comes to £53

Site name- 2 years - £5.98
Linux Starter Hosting Yearly 1 year - £29.88
123-reg Hosting Setup Fee £9.99

If you ordered one or more domain names from us, we're in the process of registering them now. We're usually quite speedy, but it can take up to 24 hours for this to complete.

Now I wait for the server details etc?

Ok guys so I've encountered a few problems and was hoping you can guide me back on track!

From 123reg I received

host name:
User ID:
Password:

In rapidweaver there are these slots, am I doing it right?

Server- in here I've put the website /host name
Username- In here I've put the user ID
Password- Password..
Path- I found a site that told me to type public_html in here but it is blank by default.

Please see this

http://support.realmacsoftware.com/faqs/basics-of-rapidweaver/publishing-your-site

I'll re-publish the site again so I can get the error code for you guys (which takes ages)

Any suggestions?

Hmm I just had a thought! In path I put www instead of html! Maybe this will work...(I'm popping home at 14.00 so I'll let you know if this has worked)

Hi guys

Really need some help here!

I published the website overnight with the pathname 'www' I got no error messages and it says the site is published.

I go on to my site and it says

Holding page for 123-reg

Help!

Hi there!

No I haven't, how would I go about doing so?

Edit- just found it! What should I enter? My site name is

I just did this

Setting nameservers to (IP ADDY) and ns2.123-reg.co.uk
Please wait...
Thank you - modification has been submitted to Nominet UK. Changes should take effect within 24/48 hours.

Have i put in the right things?

Should I fill in ns2?

I've just copied what you've done (but with my website name) so let's hope that works!

Really lost here :(

So what you're saying is that I need to leave the ns.123-reg.co.uk, ns2.123-reg.co.uk
as they are? In doing so I won't have changed anything? (these were here the whole time)

Now I understand you saying that I need to get the nameservers on the domain control panel to relate to my host, how exactly do I do this if I have to leave the hosting company as the nameservers?

I'm being advised to use Filezilla, do I need to do this? I thought i had already published the site with Rapidweaver?

it could be possible that it was all setup automatically, and all you have to do is wait 24//48 hours for everything to communicate with each other.

If there is an export feature in rapidweaver then I would also recommend filezilla, it is much better than software which is built into a web designing program.

Very helpful post!

I think this is most likely! I'll wait 48 hours and If it's still not published I'll be back to annoy you some more :D

Couldn't upload the local file "public_html/page6/files" to "/public_html/public_html/page6/files/page6-movie-0.mov" on the remote FTP server. The server replied with an FTP error code of 221 ("Goodbye.").

NcFTP returned -175: file transfer buffer has not been allocated.

Hey Lakeland, it published with success last night via rapid weaver but it still says 'coming soon'? :(

Any chance you're free to talk about it later today? Need to hand it in on Monday!

I've logged into filezilla and the files are all there!?

Seriously losing it here!
