How do I set 480p/1080i in GT4 on PS2?

Juts got GT4 again for my PS2, this is the first time playing it on a HDTV, I tried selecting the res by holding down Cross + Triangle when the Playstation logo comes up but nothing happens and it just loads up as normal.

I have checked the manual and online but I can't see anything, I have also checked in the options and all I have is 4/3 or 16/9 and the ability to posistion the screen. Loads of places on the net say that both 480p and 1080i is there so how do I get it up?

Think only the NTSC version allows this, might be wrong though?

I think (but totally not sure) that to get 1080i you needed to buy a different Japanese version.

Thanks to the two above posters... I just checked another web page review and it says that the PAL version is 'PAL Optimised' and does not include 480p/1080i.

I have no idea what PAL Optimised means... sounds to me like a posh way of saying they cut the resolution features out of the UK version.

I guess it isn't the normal black borders due to displaying 480p on a 576p TV but fullscreen and by doing that they possibly broke or left out 1080i support.

get the US edition. + disc swapper = GT4:HD!

Your probably right there, oh well at least I know now for sure that the features are not there, thanks again

It's a higher SD res natively than the NTSC version. I have the US version which can do 1080i.
